Ross Perot and the balanced National budget |
|
I remember three things about the Perot candidacy. One was that he was on Larry King every night. OK that was 'one of them there exaggerations.' The second was some tawdry story about his daughter's wedding and people storming his lawn and threatening to expose her as a lesbian or something like that. But what I remember most is his hammering about the national debt. In fact he asked all Americans to call some their legislators and demand that they pass a Constitutional Convention Resolution to balance the federal budget.
Question, what happened??? He lured a lot of voters to his candidacy. Does Bush have such a spell on his followers that they just don't think about this anymore? Has the older conservative 'savings-conscious' demographic died?

1. Deficits do not matter. |
|
That kind of thinking is so pre 9/11. I am amazed that there is nothing from * to cut the deficit other thatn a promise and that passes as acceptable. My wish was that Kerry would have tied our debt and deficit to terms of national security

2. That was before Republicans took the media |
|
Before talk radio, before FoxNews.
Because of Rush/Hannity, etc, they are all handed talking points (explanations) every day. They don't have to think for themselves anymore.

3. When Perot endorsed Bush in 2000 it showed what a fraud he is |
|
He camapigned in 1992 on the budget defecit. After 8 years of Clinton/Gore the defecit was eliminated and the gov't was running surpluses. So what do Perot do? He trashed Al Gore and supported the guy who promised a return to trickle down defecits. FRAUD.

4. They don't care. As Paul O'Neill Quoted in his book.. |
|
Dick Cheney said "Reagan proved that deficits don't matter." It's this kind of thinking that is driving them and destroying our future

5. This is where we lose. |

Ask the average voter, and he believes that the Democrats are spend, spend, spend. He will tell you that the Repubs are fiscally conservative.
When you point out that the largest deficits are under Bush, the Republican, he will tell you that is the cost of keeping him safe. He will ignore the deficit.
It drives me crazzzzzy.
