The Democratic State of Montana
Sure they votd for * along with the rest of the rural states, but when their last Repuke governor said she wanted to be "a lapdog of industry", Montanans were rightly outraged.
Today, Montana has a brand-new Democratic governor. The Democrats also took the State House of Represetatives and came within one seat of taking the State Senate. So don't give up on the rural states yet.

5. I agree. I don't believe there are 59 Million fundie zealots in this
Country. I think Chimpco duped a good 10 million folks who are otherwise rational, into thinking we are all gonna die. These are the folks we need to target and bring into our fold. And it is do-able.

7. The Heartland will turn back to the Democrats
Just like the South turned away from us 40 years ago. All we need to do is make it happen.

3. Some of our state candidates could help out our national candidates a bit.
They know how to win in those states, but our clueless national party has no idea.

6. No one n leadership has to live in a rural state
I think before a Democrat can become a Congressman or Senator, with Prsidential ambitions, they should have to live in the heartland for a year.

4. Go West
We need to target the rocky mountains and the southwest. There are plenty of fiscal conservatives/social liberals who can be converted

9. Demos in Montana
Yes, it's great that lapdog Judy is no longer guv, and wonderful the gains made in state government. But, it seems that "all politics are local" is really true in MT. Of the half-million votes cast, BushCo took it by around 100k votes. Perhaps this is just the first step in the rural states going Democratic.
Thanks

10. I noticed that...
Montana, Colorado, Vermont, Minnesota had big Dem sweeps in the state elections.

The states that have Dem governors right now include Montana, Kansas, North Carolina, Indiana, Wyoming, Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee, Arizona, Louisiana, and Oklahoma. (On the flip side, incredibly, New York, California, and Massachusetts have 'puke governors right now.)

Whatever it is we're doing right in the state elections in the rural states, we need to find a way to transfer that magic to the national elections.

I'm becoming convinced that we have a big future in the "red" states by building strong parties at the state level and winning the state house and governor races. We just have to find a way to build on the strong state parties to get people to vote Dem in national elections.

All the Dem governors we have right now, might even be the place to find the new faces we need on the national scene, and our next Presidential candidate.

12. Colorado too!!!
We recaptured the entire General Assembly for the first time since 1962!

Oh, and our Repub. Governor is really tied down. After his term is up in 2006 I think his political career is finished.
