Return of the Flip-Flop!!
Here are some thoughts for any lurking democrats who want the party to move right. John Kerry was devastated by the flip-flop charge. If there's one thing we can expect from republicans, it's that when they find a smear that works, it's here to stay (The word liberal is still as much of a smear as it was 20 years ago!). If Democratic politicians tack to the right during their terms in office, then try to straddle the fine line of "being more like the republicans" as well as keeping control of their base during the elections, the flip-flop charge will work. Democrats need to be democrats, or 20 years from now, we will be laughed off as merely the cheese eating, whining, liberal, flip-flop party. I can here the jokes now "Why don't they change their mascot from a donkey to a rabbit?" We can't let this happen. Don't give an inch of ground to the Republicans.

1. proper use of language dictates that
the flip flop charge would also work against the repubs. Bush was ripe for the charge but the dems did not touch it at all, that I know of.

once again repubs control the language and the agenda, not to mention the vote COUNTING machines.

3. One would think by now
Democrats would have turned the "tax and spend liberal" smear around, but instead, they have let it fester since the 1980's. I have little confidence in their ability to stop this smear through spin. The best course of action for this party is through their actions.

2. You're right
to quote myself from last night:
"If we don't think the Constitution is worth fighting for, then we don't deserve to be called Americans. It's about time we got angry. And yes, it's going to get a hell of a lot worse before it gets better. But it will never get better if we keep trying to hug the center of the road as the mainstream party keeps pulling further to the right." We have to stand for something, and we have to be willing to fight for it. We can't achieve that as long as we are trying to walk a tightrope to avoid alienating "the masses."

7. We need to quit letting THEM define US.
I want a candidate that will stand up and say I am a Democrat. Let me tell you what that means.
