A site on how to spend your money in a socially responsible manner?

I've seen lots of people looking at how their grocery stores donate and how to join credit unions, and I was wondering if there was any one site that put all that info together.

If not, how about starting one? I don't have the skills to do so, but I'm a good researcher. And everyone here could donate what they know locally. For instance, I can give the address of the two locations of our local cooperative grocery, GreenStar. It could have where to get nonsweatshop clothes, rate businesses on whether they're gay-friendly, disabled-friendly, etc. It would help people direct their money in the right direction, and we all know that's what the Republicans are really worried about: how to lay their hands on the little bit of money that's in ours.

I've checked, and voteyourpocketbook.com seems to be available. "Votewithyourwallet.com" does not seem to be available, but there's no site yet. Anyone know if it's really planned or is it someone who grabbed a name in the hopes someone would buy it?

I'm gonna kick this by adding some more ideas.

There could be a page on each company, with a specific profile. For instance, a company could be rated "pro-living wage," but by going to the page, it could be seen that the evidence is that the business is a member of the local living-wage committee and that it pays its lowest-paid employees a living wage.

Sure, the right could use it to pick businesses they like; they could avoid, for instance, anyone with a "pro-choice" rating. It seems to me, however, that that's American in the best way: give people the info and let them do what they think is right.

At least we know these votes would be counted. And if the majority of the country is shopping left, but the elections are still coming out right, that will beg an obvious question.

I also checked "shopyourvalues.com," which is also available. Maybe we could even go into it as nonpartisan; just to show people where their various business choices stand when they're picking something. List conservative businesses and their specific values, too.

I could not do this alone. I am a lousy project manager, and I am hopeless with people. I am, however, an excellent researcher and a good data organizer. I have some basic HTML knowledge. Is there anyone out there who finds this project of interest?

4. I am interested

I have been cataloging information on brands and products whose companies contributed to the Bush campaign and I would be interested in extending this list for general use. I also want to target doctors who refuse to prescribe contraceptives, and especially pharmacists who refuse to fill those prescriptions, though I don't know if that would necessarily be relevant here.

Unfortunately, my skills parallel yours. I'm an experienced and thorough researcher, good writer and archivist, and know some extremely rudimentary HTML. I can't offer much in the way of organization or management; I'm not accustomed to working with other people.

I suppose we'd need a database or something. I must admit to ignorance on that score.

Bluezone.com would be OK if the info was liberal only. I thought shopyourvalues.com might be easier to remember for those looking for that.
