Impeaching Bush: How to jumpstart the Movement
This will be a critical way to get the White House in 2008. What obviously needs to be done first is to begin a no-holds barred taking back of as many Repuglican seats in the Senate and House in 2006. That includes Repug moderates. This has to be played like they play...focused and relentless. Once that is done, then it's off to impeaching Bush as quickly as possible. Of course, the movement and spin must begin immediately.

If neocons like Frist want to use the "Nuclear option" and not allow filibustering in the House, then the gloves MUST go off! But we should start efforts anyway. If anything, it would distract the Repugs while they also have inner battles within their party.

This site starts off with some suggestions:
http://www.impeachbush.tv/impeach/grounds.html

Others:
http://www.thefourreasons.org/
http://www.counterpunch.org/boyle01172003.html
http://www.commondreams.org/views03/1009-06.htm
http://radio.weblogs.com/0116902/stories/2003/01/18/impeachBush.html

Essentially, the charges for impeachment are growing:

1. Outing a CIA agent for political gain
2. Ignoring warnings about 9/11 before it happened
3. Lying to Congress about impending threats of WMDs in Iraq
4. Possible election fraud
5. The United Nations Charter forbids member states from attacking each other without authorization of the Security Council.

Any other suggestions? Let's get this thing rolling.

1. he needs to be charged for crimes against humanity
I think we should write to all of the foreign press and direct them to sites like impeachbush.org and hopefully they will start speculating on our intention to impeach him. The more newspapers that say the word impeach, the better. People will start picking up on the idea.
We use the foreign press because our press has fallen to the dark side.

2. Thats Super.
Except we can't gain control of Congress unless we can expose the massive fraud that occured to get Bush a second term in the first place.

3. Just putting the 2 words in front of the public did wonders with Nixon's
I was one of the first in Austin with an Impeach Nixon bumpersticker.

At first it met with hostility, even in a progressive place like Austin. It shocked people, for some reason. Soon they were everywhere, as were teeshirts etc, and talk about the possibility ran riot. Soon it was a budding reality.

Buy a cap or a tee shirt (not necessarily from me...they are everywhere). Wear it. Speak about it often. It could happen. If we have learned anything lately, it is that politicians are whores, especially Republican politicians.

4. Sorry, but I don't see it happening
The House would have to pass articles of impeachment, which would require an overwhelming Dem majority of Representatives. Then, assuming the Senate has full attendence, we would need 67 votes to convict. We would need either 22 Senate seats to turn Democrat, or we'd have to get a lot of Republicans with a political deathwish.

5. Ramsy Clark has already started
http://votetoimpeach.org/

But I agree that it will never happen with a Republican House of Reps.

6. I signed the petition yesterday
and I opted for having them hand delivered for $9.95 through the congress.org mail system.

I know that we no longer have checks & balances, but I also think it's important to speak out & to let them know that we're aware of what's happening in this administration. We need to keep writing them!

7. 2006 Elections are critical...the Medicare bill could be Repug disaster
Edited on Sun Nov-14-04 03:03 PM by zulchzulu
Getting the movement to get Bush impeached also needs to coincide with the disastrous Medicare bill passed that will start happening in 2006. This could mean absolute disaster for the Repugs. Seniors who voted for Bush in 2004 will come out in droves to reverse the Medicare bill and vote out those who voted for it. All the Repugs did and they know they are sitting ducks with this issue.

The story about the impending Medicare disaster needs to start happening now. Drum beat this sucker hard. And with the war going badly, impeachment messages will nicely dovetail into lacerating the Repugs from the House and Senate in 2006.

8. add this to the list

Three plans brought by the Pentagon to Bush asking permission to kill Zarqawi and bomb his terrorist camp in N Iraq. Three times Bush protected Zarqawi and refused their requests.

10. Bush Impeachment
I believe wholeheartedly that Bush should be impeached. I believe he has committed high crimes and misdemeanors.

However, I think we need to be realistic. The Republicans have just increased their majority in the House of Representatives. I just don't think there is any Republican in the House who would be willing to step up to the plate and get articles of impeachment written. And without Republican support in the house, impeachment is dead.

And a 2/3 vote in the Senate to convict? Forget it. And that's a shame.

11. 2006 elections will change the possibility
We need to target Repugs and change the numbers in the Senate and Congress. Then we go for the jugular.
