The Liberal Achilles' Heel...
Edited on Tue Nov-16-04 12:16 AM by MJDuncan1982
Is it our temprorary (and I emphasize that word) flaw that we attempt to remain reasonable in every circumstance and the Republicans and Conservatives don't which allows them to appeal to the ignorant mass?

We always walk the middle path which is, in my opinion, the most realistic, but it opens us up to getting hit head on.

Thoughts on this? I don't think we should abandon the benchmark of 'reasonable' because it is, by definition, the most reasonable way to proceed.

However, how do we fight the extremists (and don't forget that our side has our fair share of them)?

Edit: Left out one 'L' in the subject line...

2. It is time that we rethink our tactics
you think this goverment has the consent of hte governed? IF you do, continue as usual

If not, does the term boston tea Party ring any bells? If it does, look deep into US History, the answer you seek is there, but it is not easy, not instantaneous, nor will it take four years. It will take a lifetime

I talk of civil disobedience and boycotts

3. There's yer proof... the missing "L"
Ya just had to tell us ya f'd up. See, that's where we screw up, "Never apologize, never explain". We libs fall all over ourselves trying to be oh-so correct, as the opposition steals the game right from under us.

Noting personal, mind ya, but as ya say, it is our Achille's heel.

What's the answer? Hell if I know. A level playing field, for a start, would be nice.

4. Well
Thats actually the reason Kerry lost. Didn't go after the Swift Boat. Never went after Bush's massive records of flip-flops, just stood there and took it as they tagged him one. We needed Harry Truman and we got Harry Reasoner. We should measure all future candidates on one thing: will he FIGHT?

6. So is it agreed that our problem is being to damn
reasonable about things? However, that is our nature...how do we fight an enemy that is not reasonable while remaining reasonable ourselves?

You take the fight to them. Call in their stupid radio shows, so those who are undecided that may be listening will at least get to hear our side of it. Get on forums that have mixed groups of people, not just screaming at freepers on their forum or singing to the choir over here. I like Open Discussion forums at automobile hobbyist sites - lots of conservatives to argue with, a few liberals to help out, and a large audience of mostly average people. We should spread out like an army over the whole Internet Forum world. We should have a Cut-and-Paste bank over here to keep us consistent on issues, and a database of all the open political discussion forums and if we have at least one DUer on each one. If you keep pounding these bastards with reasoned argument, they look like fools after a while - the problem is, nobody is doing it. We spend way too much time in our own little world while they are beating us to a pulp with Mass Media. Time to get in there and start punching back.

Here's another example: Why are we not boycotting Michael Savage's advertisers? Do we even know who they are? We are essentially giving them money to pay Savage to call us "rats". That's sticking your bare ass heinie in the air for em. Why don't we have something on this site to track who they are?
