Poll question: Should Condi Rice's Nomination Be Opposed In The Senate?
Or should Bush* be permitted to have whomever he desires for Secretary of State?

1. I can't honestly think of many worse choices than Rice
Given her past performance, if the Democrats don't oppose this nomination, why bother having confirmation hearings at all? The Bush administration might as well just send over the paperwork and have the committee sign off on it.

Is there going to be a nominee sometime in the future who's MORE deserving of being opposed? She lied during the 911 hearings, for crying out loud!

10. Exactly...
... why bother having confirmation hearings at all? There is no reason. Let Bush** set up his cabinet however he wants. It's clear he wants only yes men and yes women and true believers, and even if this nomination were blocked he'd pick another from one of those categories.

Dems should fight SCOTUS nominations if they are idealogues. Other than that, they should sit on the sidelines and let Bush** do whatever he wants. When the inevitable result comes home, the Reps will have nobody to blame and neither will the 51% moron contingent.

3. But in our favor, she is a proven incompetent. If we have here there, it
will become painfully obvious that she is way out of her league. Just watch international reactions to her blathering crap.

When she was made NSA, she did not even know about Al Qaida. She knew nothing about terror risks to this country. Once appointed, she continued to ignore the risks. She WAS concerned with missiles coming over Alaska from the former USSR, though.

I think we let this appointment through. At least she can't destroy our rights from that office. She will make a complete and utter fool of herself.

5. She'll be rubberstamped
because she has that all important "R" after her name. Only the Democrats will vote against her. Expect the GOP vote to be unanimous for approval.

Never mind that the woman isn't even a competent liar, let alone competent at any of the tasks she'll be assigned in echoing Bush's insanity at the State Department. She's Repuglican, so she will be confirmed without a fight.

6. To what end?
She'll be confirmed, no matter what. She'll serve in a temporary position where she can do far less harm than as National Security Adviser.

Should the Democrats use up their limited power within the Senate to wage a fight they cannot win?

I don't think so. Better save it up for the fights that REALLY matter - Supreme Court nominees, nuclear option, and Lord knows what new war plans this president will spring on us in the next year or so.

Let's fight smart and pick our battles.

8. Yes, oppose
But she'll be confirmed anyway.

Maybe it doesn't matter so much? This "president" believes in "my way or the highway," not diplomacy.

11. Perhaps "Scorched Earth Retreat" opposition is not needed....
Save that for Ashcroft's nomination to the Supreme Court.

But--could some pointed questions be asked? For example--just how good a National Security Adviser was she? What about 9/11?

She does get flustered when she has to lie....

15. I think she should be opposed
to the point of illustrating her FAILURES for the record. At this point, I'm willing to just let it happen (we actually have little choice). Just let them hang themselves. They will anyway. Congresspeople and senators, at this point, just need to go "on the record" with the misdeeds and incompletence and criminality of these people.

17. Al Franken just played the tape of Condi lying to the 911 comission
about the August 6th PDB when she said the report entitled 'Bin Laden determined to attack within the US' was a 'historical document'. I just started screaming 'you stupid, lying, lizard-eyed,neo-con, bitch, you have the blood of three-thousand people on your hands.' I'm guessing from my outburst that yes, I guess I would like the congress to try and block her nomination to Secretary of State.

18. She should be opposed as should Abu Ghraib Gonzalez
And Democrats need to oppose these two very strongly because they are wrong for the country and have demonstrated incompetence and contempt for the people and the Constitution.

21. She has exhibited extraordinary incompetence, and has lied on record.
That is the reason she should not be confirmed period. I don't care if Bush is making appointments calculating in race and/or gender, just so that it makes those who oppose them look like rascists, she must be opposed for her ineptitude and dishonesty period.

22. Wrong is wrong, no matter the color
Some Democrats got caught in a version of this argument with Clarence Thomas and look how that turned out. We matured some in the interim and did not let another version of this argument stop opposition to Miguel Estrada. Not opposing someone who is wrong, dishonest, and unqualified solely because of her race and gender plays to the worst distortions about affirmative action and leads to bad outcomes. Also, Rice has squandered just about all standing she had among black people with her unrelenting lying and sycophancy in support of the bush junta. FWIW, I'm black and will be writing to my Senators in strong opposition of her and of Alberto Abu Ghraib Gonzalez.

Frankly, I don't think she'll survive the confirmation hearings without massive perjury and "National Security" evasion.

It's actually an insult to whores to compare them with Cond-LIAR, since they provide an honest service, and don't drop 500lb. bombs on civilians...
