A Dear Abby for Dems, this site's Auntie Pinko answers woeful letters with hope: "Liberals are now (more or less) where the ultraconservative wing of the G.O.P. was back when Mr. Goldwater was defeated in 1964."

7. They're aware of that.
"Started by our neighbors to the north, this satirical site asks foreigners to 'open your heart, and your home' to political refugees from the U.S. Some 5,000 people from around the globe have taken the pledge."

Edited on Tue Nov-16-04 12:52 PM by angrydemocrat
What the heck do they mean by that almost as if they are trying to insult all of us here at DU.? Oh well it don't matter to me what anyone has to say about DU I personally think it is the best and everyone here rocks! People may disagree on some things but when it is time everyone always pulls together to get the work done around here. That itself speaks volumes for DU no matter what anyone has to say about it.

14. Um...
"Auntie" has a regular column here:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/auntie/index.html

And "Pinko" is used sarcastically - kind of like, say, "TeddyKGB".

15. Christ.... I thought that's where we were post election in 1972!

I must have missed the part where we more or less refuse to yield the heart and soul of the party, dominate future primaries and caucuses, gradually take control of both houses of congress, impeach the third-party anomaly president of the other major party, and consolidate our control over the entire federal government.

Speculation Grows On Presidential Bid For Warner in 2008

By Michael D. Shear
Washington Post Staff Writer
Sunday, November 14, 2004; Page C01

Web surfers at a site called the Democratic Underground think Virginia Gov. Mark R. Warner should be their party's next presidential candidate. So does a guy named Steve, who has started a "Warner in 2008" Internet journal. And among political pundits and the soul-searching leadership of the Democratic Party, Warner's name keeps popping up.

26. Whatever Happened To Being Underground?
I mean, if we're in Time Magazine....

Maybe we should start a new site, Maquis.net - really underground! And no, that would not be comparing the Republicans to Nazis (that's so overdone) it would be comparing them to Cardassians!

Comparing THIS election and our state of mind to the 1964 Johnson-Goldwater election?!?!? That is absurd and offensive. x(

31. I resent Time's tone
That first link-- the whole tone is pretty disparaging and mocking toward us, I think. It's certainly not put together in a serious vein-- and this IS serious, profoundly, deadly serious because our country is falling apart-- or, more accurately, it's being torn to shreds by these thieves. I don't see anything amusing about the subject and I resent Time's making fun at our expense.
