Reid is mostly a Good Democrat |
|
Reid, a veteran of 22 years in Congress, voted against President Bush's tax cuts in 2001 and opposed the final version of the administration's landmark Medicare overhaul legislation in 2003.
snip
Earlier this year, he helped bottle up a proposed constitutional amendment to ban gay marriages, and sided with organized labor when it sought to make sure no worker lost overtime rights under new administration regulations.
He's also worked with environmentalists to block oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
As well, he's been a loyal supporter of Democratic filibusters against 10 of Bush's judicial nominees deemed extremists by a coalition of civil rights, women's and other groups.
And guess who is # 2? Durbin!

6. anti-choice = anti-woman = bigotry |

It's not ok with me that a bigot represents the Democratic party. They'll not see a dime from me until he's gone.

4. There are two issues which people make hay about |
|
Edited on Tue Nov-16-04 01:35 PM by Doomsayer13
One is his views on choice. He's not 100% anti-choice, but he has supported restrictions on abortions.
The other is the environment. Naturally, he is pro-mining, as his state is called THE SILVER STATE. In all other environmental issues, he's a solid green.
His stance on abortion concerns me, but if there's anything I've learned from parliamentary procedure is that you can work to defeat something that you're going to support. Reid has proved to be a partisan player throughout his career, and his support of filibusters for right wing nutjobs is indicative of this.
I like him, and I think we should give him a chance.

7. Great Post! Thanks US Regime Change |

Your post is welcome change from the Reid-bashing that's been going on AND it's factual, which the Reid-bashing has not been.
