do you think the blue states will be safe from Bushco? |
|
besides having to pay 1/3 of what we make to Halliburton and the red states, will we be free of harrassment from fundies? Relatively insulated from NCLB? I am trying to figure out of I need to move all the way to Canada, or if Seattle will keep me safe.

2. Even here in a red state I'm free of fundie harrassment |
|
I know of a Hindu commune near here, a group of Bahais, and folks who practice Native American spirituality as well as Sufis living in northwest Arkansas, not far from Branson. So far, we haven't been harrassed, and I've lived here since '91.
The people around here have a libertarian streak, however, and cherish their privacy. The Repuke sheriff candidate LOST because he said he'd visit every home in the county every six months. So my area may be different than other areas, but I hope not.

....But we will be heavily poised to help those seeking freedom from the red states.
Fire up the underground railroad....it's going to be a bumpy ride!

7. I am mostly worried about my money |
|
I have made arrangements to have someone in Canada shelter my kids if they get drafted, so I am safe on that front. My worry is that they will devise a way to put the financial burden of "Duh-bya's Bogus Journey" on the people like me who work for a living. I know they're going to get the poor kids to fight the wars, but I thinkthey'll try to find a way to get the middle class to pay for it.
What I would REALLY like is for my governor and state legislature (IL) to declare that no one in Illinois will pay federal income tax while this stupid war is ongoing. We in the blue states don't have any presence in the media, but we do send alot of money to the red states. I'd like to try to "starve the beast" by refusing to subsidize the policies of Mad Smirk.

Are there any state governments right now that might go for this?
What would the feds do if this happened?
Maybe someone with more posts could start a thread...

this is the sort of activism that i think might work. Needs a big grouop though. If you try to do it yourself, they'll just throw you in Leavenworth.

11. I believe that there are some new treaties |
|
Which just came into being which effectively prevents Canada from being a safe haven for draft evaders.
I'm sure I heard about this, perhaps another DUer has a link or better recollection. Anyway, before sending them to Canada thinking they are safe from the draft check it out first.

12. Flood of would-be tax-dodgers? |
|
If a state could and did decide to stop paying fed. taxes, they might want/need to raise state taxes. I'd be all for this if they put the money to good use.
