4. OK, OK apologies all around
It was encouraging to hear. He spoke extensively, and for Leahy, pretty eloquently, about the need for dissent. He compared the current political climate to Mcarthyism. He talked about the sunset clauses in the Patriot Act and the need for them, to well, sunset. He also vigorously defended the role of the opposition, while denying that the dems had acted as obstructionists re judges. He pointed out that the rethugs, during the Clinton admin, kept nominations from even coming to committee. In addition, he spoke about how disasterous the Iraq war is, and mentioned that 100,000 Iraqi civilians have been killed. He expressed concern about the lack of any dissenting voices in the administration, voiced support for Spector, knocked republicans for using religion and morality to shut people up- and more.

6. I like Leahy. We need more like him on our side.
Wasn't he the one who Cheney told to go fuck himself?

10. Yep. He also received an anthrax letter 3 years ago.
Not that I'm saying there's a link between the two or anything. Nope.

12. And our former Senate leader Daschle as well
I'm sure that too was merely a random selection of the mysterious anthrax mail service.

11. Leahy's stealthy, smart and tough
Very mild-mannered and soft-spoken but drives the Republicans absolutely nuts.

He's an excellent example of why it's a mistake to assume that just because a Senator doesn't yell and scream and foam at the mouth, he must not be effective. (Yes, I'm talking about Reid)
