Perot '08
Edited on Wed Nov-17-04 10:10 AM by damkira
Granted, I wouldn't vote for him but we should prop him up like the rethugs did for nadir. He got WAY more votes than nadir could ever hope for in '92 and '96 and I don't think there's another right or center-right candidate that would take as many votes away from the repugs that Perot could.

The man's ego is gargantuan. If we were to stroke it enough, we can get him to run.

1. Alas, that was a different time
I don't see Perot drawing a lot of support while the repukes are playing war party and scaring us with warnings about imminent attacks.

4. I disagree...
There are plenty of conservatives who are disgusted by the * agenda.
After all, conservatives are supposed to be for cutting government spending and didn't *spend more in his first term than Clinton spent in both of his?

Also, as more and more bad news comes from Iraq people will want a president with a more isolationist worldview, like Perot.

7. disgusted while yatching
and sipping intoxicating liquids. The conservatives you are talking about are missing in action.

My guess is Perot attracted few real "conservatives" anyway. I think he had more of a populist appeal and drew primarily from people pissed at Washington that were either independents or typical swing voters.

2. Try A Preacher Man Candidate
Feed that Republican split between the true fiscal conservatives and the religious right. Disgusting thought. But it should be apparent that there are plenty of ego obsessed preachers that aspire to political power.

3. Perot spent 20 million of his own money.
And back then, that was a lot.

5. The guy we need to run is Roy Moore
On the Constitution Party ticket.

He's the Ten Commandments judge from Alabama. The Constitution Party tried to recruit him because he has a huge following with findamentalists. If he had run this year, President-elect Kerry would be picking Cabinet members right now.

We'd have to cut a deal with him, though.

If Moore had been on the ballot, we would have won Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Arkansas and Louisiana.

6. He's an ideologue.
How do you cut a deal with someone like that? Money won't do it, and the things he would want politically are repugnant. An appeal to his ego might work, but how to do that?

Besides, his 15 minutes are likely up.

10. Moore is just getting started
Moore is likely to challenge Bob Riley for the GOP nomination as Alabama's governor. If he does, he'd be favored to win at this point. Riley pissed off a lot of Republicans with his tax plan.

There are only two Democrats with a chance to beat him: Lt. Gov. Lucy Baxley and Charles Barkley. Barkley can't run this time around because of the residency requirement in the state Constitution.

What would Moore want? Something symbolic might do it, like displaying his Ten Commandments monument in some very (non-government) prominent place. Making him a federal district judge in Alabama might also do it. He was booted off the state Supreme Court because of a federal court order. He'd make a lot of stupid rulings that would have to be overturned, but any damage would be confined to one third of Alabama. And, frankly, he wouldn't be any worse than any of the other judges Bush has picked from down here.

11. Moore would take a LOT of votes away from Repugs in the South
Here in Louisiana, lots of candidates for Appelate Court judges had ads on television about how much they supported Roy Moore. It made me sick.

8. If reforming trade were part of his platform, he would take votes from
the left as well. Bank on it.

9. I think he would take more votes with his
good ole boy texas persona away from the right...

He would make a big difference especially if the right tries to run Adolph Giuliani, who is pro-choice.
