Vilsack Is Reid's Top Pick for DNC Chair
Associated Press

WASHINGTON - Incoming Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid said Tuesday that Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack would be a strong choice to head the Democratic Party.

"I think Vilsack, if he's willing to spend the time and energy and effort, would be a real good person to be the head," Reid, D-Nev., told The Associated Press in an interview several hours after his election as Democratic leader in the Senate.

"I hope that he agrees to try to have a run at it. I think it's an excellent idea," Reid said, adding that he's spoken to Vilsack.

"I'm confident that he's interested in this," Reid said.

1. Great, just damned great...I guess we'll just stop running for elections
Because clearly, the DEMS don't have a clue, if they think bland Vilsack is the best face & voice for the party...

8. my big problem with Vilsack is that I feel DNC chair is
a full-time job--and should be especially after this election. Vilsack still has two years as Gov. of Iowa. Which job will get the shaft?

20. with Vilsack as Chair
its likely that we'll have an arrangement like we did with Chris Dodd. One is the general chair, and another person does the day to day operations.

2. So we're going to replace one loser with another
McAwful helped run Dems lose elections and Vilsack couldn't carry IA for Kerry in the general election.

Maybe the Dem Party needs to die before it can be reborn. Vilsack will certainly help the Dems become more Repuke-lite and lead the Dems to a inglorious end or would that be merger with the Repukes.

5. Vilsack
has won elections in Iowa after the state was Republican dominated for 12 years. He knows how to win.

11. I think DNC should be two jobs--a spokesperson/strategist & money
raiser.

Vilsack might do well on the latter and probably would be good to add input to the strategy.

But, my experiences, seeing him on the tv punditry shows, is that he comes off as bland, slow-footed, and is easily ignored--no fire in the belly...

13. Has anyone given a VALID reason to not pick Vilsack?
Other than the 'he's boring on television' and 'Kerry didn't win Iowa' - Kerry didn't win one hell of alot of states...I guess Howard Dean IS the only choice.

Who here has seen Vilsack in action? Seen him win TWO Governors races (while down the ticket races were republican blow-outs!) Not to mention the races he won BEFORE he ran for Governor?

Has anyone heard that he plans on remaining Governor if he gets the DNC Chair position? Or will he step down allowing his Lt. Governor (Sally Pederson) to assume the Governor's seat giving her the benifit of going in to the '06 elections as an incumbent?

I think Vilsack deserves a closer look and tighter scrutiny than 'Uh, don't know much about him...just know I don't like him'.

15. What's Vilsack's Message???
The Dems need a CHARISMATIC person with a MESSAGE as DNC Chair. Right now Dems are discouraged after this loss and they are falling away from activism for the Party in DROVES!!

Who could we possibly find who is WILLING to lead the Dems for the next few years who might POSSIBLY turn this Party into a FORCE again??????

I repeat......HOWARD DEAN.

Noble of Kerry to want to reward Vilsack. I'm sure he's good, but he's NOT WHAT WE NEED RIGHT NOW.
