Think long-term, y'all--- Hillary for SCOTUS! |
|
Edited on Wed Nov-17-04 02:23 PM by Cuban_Liberal
I happen to be one of Sen. Clinton's biggest fans, but I think the chances of her ever being elected POTUS are somewhere in the neighborhood of zero, frankly. That said, I'd like to make a modest proposal: (Chief) Justice Clinton.
By all accounts, including those from many people who can't STAND her, Sen. Clinton is a top-notch, creme de la creme attorney with a brilliant legal mind. She was highly-paid and much sought after when she was a member of the Rose law firm, and it wasn't because of the fact that Bill was the Governor, either. If we REALLY want Sen. Clinton to leave a lasting imprint on American society, then we should do everything within our power to get her appointed to the SCOTUS after 1/20/09, if possible as Chief Justice, either initially or later. Regardless of whether Bush appoints 3 or 4 this term, we still have one of the oldest SCs in our nations history, and the NEXT POTUS will likely also apoint 2 or 3.
Think long-term, y'all!
:)

Not a Hillary bash, but Hillary likes the limelight, and the SCOTUS by definition operates behind closed doors.
She'd hate it.

6. I don't know about that... |

Sure she likes the limelight, but I think she also wants a legacy and what could be more of a legacy than serving on the highest judicial court in the land for life? Her opinions and decisions would shape this country.
That's more long-term power than a POTUS has.

9. I guess I don't mind the idea of her as POTUS |
|
as much as you do.
It's just I can't think that far ahead. I'm still in the first stages of mourning -- haven't allowed myself to feel the rage yet.
(That's why I was so hip to the idea of a TV chat room.)

Really I'd love it if she were...
What I don't want is to see the ugly, misogynistic bigots that will come after her. I don't want to hear even more Hillary Hate than we hear now. It's so "hip" to hate Hillary because she's a strong, thinking woman. And if she were to become POTUS, she'd be even more of a lightning rod than her husband.

I would personally be THRILLED with her as POTUS, but the crap-storm that would follow her nomination and almost-inevitable defeat in the GE make me queasy to even think about. Every RW nutjob in America would be frothing at the mouth, while simultaneously loading their varmint rifles.

(think Jack Nicholson in "A few good men" -- the "you don't talk about at parties" line?)
a part of me wants to say bring them on. She'll kick their asses. And then she'll demolish them.

7. Then we let that be her choice. |
|
I'm not sure if even Hillary would be able to say 'no' to a lifetime appointment at the request of the POTUS.

3. I'd rather SCOTUS than POTUS... |

Call me sexist, and well, okay maybe so, but I am a female. I'm concerned about us putting a minority or woman up for President in 2008. I mean, we couldn't win 2004 with a white male, and knowing what bigots 50+ percent of America is, I just don't want to play with fire until we gain more control of this country.

5. i totally agree, in fact i seriously don't think she will run for |
|
President. i'm sure she would "LIKE" to be president. but she isn't stupid. she is realistic with how things are in this country. there is a reason she agreed to run for senate from New York. if all the states were like new york she could win the presidency, but she knows it's not that way. she went through a lot of crap when her husband ran for president and she knows it will be far worse if she ever ran herself.
but supreme court , and chief justice is the PERFECT job for her. i would love to see her there and laugh at the right wing assholes.

All that's required is a Democratic president and a 60 majority Democratic senate.
