Soo...it's been more than two weeks since the sky fell.... |
|
How's it looking, DU? Speaking for myself, No Surrender and Beautiful Day have unstuck themselves from my brain, and I haven't cried in a while. I'm moving forward (like I have a choice!), and trying to think positively.
One thing I have done that is making a big difference: I HAVE NOT WATCHED ONE SECOND OF CORPORATE TV since the travesty two weeks ago. I get my news from here and from Air America. Just think if we all did that, (except for a brave few to alert us to the most horrible "journalistic" whoring), id might have an effect.
Please share if you've found a way of coping....it might help somebody. :)

2. I have not watched TV (except for All My Children) ... |
|
... during the day I listen to classical music rather than AAR at work, and I'm avoiding all the paranoia and flame festing over in the Results forum.
I am trying to regain my balance by avoiding BOTH extremes and focusing on more tangible things (walking HippieDog, baking, cleaning, reading ...)

6. I'll say one good thing about the election results... |
|
It's been good for me physically. I've been so pissed off that I've had no choice but to go to the gym and work it out of my system. My bench press has gone up twenty pounds in two weeks alone and I've lost 7 pounds. I just let my anger take hold of me and tear it up. In about a year if I keep this up, I'll be looking forward to physical confrontations with freepers just to see what happens. I haven't felt this strong in years.

8. I too have not watched any tv except rented movies and |
|
free speech tv. I only have listened to Air America. I have been only shopping for essentials and supporting small natural food markets. I also went shopping at the goodwill. I got some pretty good stuff for really cheap. Thanksgiving should be real fun this year. We aren't going to hubby's mothers house since they all voted for Bush and are now telling us we need to go to church and ask for forgiveness for supporting a child murderer. Ironic isn't it. Oh, and I donated to DU today which made me happy. Still sad, mad, and just downright tired, but I'll keep fighting.

Don't tell me! The "kid" the swiftboat liars like to lie about when they're lying about everything else? Of course, that's already been debunked by the Vietnamese villagers that were there, but facts have never stood in the way of this crowd. My God, your family is even farther gone than mine. So sorry.

After reading your post I could not believe what your inlaws said to you. I am appalled, and pissed off at their stupid attitude. They are lucky that I am not the one that they said that too. I am very sure they would all prey for me after they heard what I would have said to them. They are the ones that support a child murderer. I am sure you will have a better Thanksgiving without going there.

Play the Wiggles. AND I laugh about how I was had...again. I feel that I voted for what I thought was right. I gave and I gave and in return I got proof that we have a one party system. I think the Dems left me. I so want a party of the people to stand up for human rights, and to protect workers from exploitation...Kerry's party ain't it right now. THEY PRETEND to be but Nader seems to be right. So I guess the joke's on us.

My off the charts liberal hubby is big on humor too, although even he had trouble finding the funny side on the day after the election. I admire you guys. I can still laugh (like at that great picture you posted; it always cracks me up), but I don't seem to have the energy to find the funny side myself. I admire you.

14. My anger is becoming more and more directed to our Senators and |
|
Congresspeople. The right wing is hopeless - Snowe, Collins, and a few might as well be tied to a chair in a remote motel - they have been kidnapped and ducttaped. And way, way too many of our own appear to have become victims of blackmail. There are few who don't bow and scrape to the right wing.
In one hour I think the best thing that could happen is that the religious right breaks with their corporate owners because they found an ounce of logic to live by and that some strong leader runs for their President. Then the Dem Party can split and we might have seven Parties. In the next hour, I realize that a successful corporate Repulican-Nazi-Facist Party who grows stronger by the minute can still swindle and screw all of us and that there is no hope other than a generous God.

15. I think it's easier to cope with this loss |
|
if you simply remember that we, meaning all non-Bush voters, received between 48 and 49 percent of all votes cast. And this was in the re-election of an incumbent! Excuse me, folks, but 1972 it ain't. Some might recall that as the year the criminal Dick Nixon carried 48 out of 50 states and look what happened to that piece of right-wing shit. If there was ever a time to be demoralized, that was it.
Look, we aren't going anywhere! We are going to survive and prosper and we are going to PARTICIPATE in ALL debates at the national level! And remember the Republican moderates like Chaffee and McCain and Grassley, just to name three. If Arlen Spector can retrieve his testicles from where he left them recently, he'll be a reliable foil to the worst elements of his party which, sadly, have taken over his party, at least for the time being.
No, these neocon scumbags are temporary, not permanent.
9/11 and the war have provided the Repugs with the mother of all goldmines but remember,
this, too, shall pass.

16. Yesterday I started watching National 'news' again |
|
cause I wanted to hear about the great 'successes' this country is achieving in Iraq. I have come to acceptance that the repukes are in control of everything and in some ways this is freeing me by lifting a burden off of me..."they broke it, they own it" and some of this stuff is "not my problem". x(

17. I've watched no corporate news either. It's my small effort at payback. |
|
Plus, I really cannot stand the whores anymore. But, otherwise, life is getting back to normal. One change is my increased cynicism about the Democratic Party. I might become a registered Independent or Green soon. I'll probably still cast my vote for the Dem in presidential elections, but I have little hope of us regaining power for a very long time. We had the chance to do something about bbvs but, as usual, our so-called leaders blew it. I doubt the avalanche can be stopped now.

I have watched TV, yes, but have stayed totally free of the corporate billboard media.
I feel better for it. I can't turn off the TV though. How would i keep up with Lost and The Daily Show? :)

My feelings about Kerry are so complicated right now. I think I made the mistake of hero worshipping him during the campaign. I was a very strong Kerry supporter. Now I feel let down in such a personal way. It's difficult to deal with, but I can see how a direct appeal such as yours could help. I don't want to become totally disillusioned with Kerry and the party, and sometimes I'm afraid that that is exactly what's happening.

Before the election I was somewhat "in the closet" as a Dominant Woman and BDSM practitioner.
But no more.
My partner and I went up against the Gay Establishment in los Angeles when they allowed the LA Sheriff's Department mounter patrol to ride Harry Hay off the street! We fought bitterly to defend the adult bookstores in Albuquerque from being shut down in 1988 and we fought the Meese Commission... but somewhere along ther way, I got tired.
The "erection" (with which we were screwed!) has galvanised Me back into opposition.
Will I be rounded up along with the other "perverts" some day? Probably. But I stand WITH My brothers and sisters. I'm NOT hiding any more!
