I find that extremely fascinating and ironic.

Apparently, his white Kansas mother is a direct descendent of Jefferson Davis, the one and only President of the Confederacy.

ON EDIT: Realized that I should probably post at least some link. I'd read this factoid before somewhere. Anyway, I did find a link on Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barack_Obama

Also it says distant descendant, so I'm not sure quite what that means - whether it means merely a direct descendent from a longtime back or descended from the same family, not necessarily the direct progeny of Jefferson Davis. Maybe some DU'er could help out?

7. Ol' Jeff had at least one brother, who has jillions of descendants.
I have met many of them. Jeff Davis did not have any sons. So people with Davis last name are usually not direct descendants.
