I simply CANNOT believe what I am seeing and hearing.....
Driving home from the airport tonight, NPR show "The Point" - someone from Slate who the host said represents the left and a raving fundie/rightie discussing how we are going to live with the great divide...the Slate person starts by saying he actually supports Bush on a few things - as usual the person supposedly on the left is actually in the center and completely bend-over prone.....watching newsnight tonight, seeing the Declining Morals part with a very well spoken gentleman vs a typical Stepford fundie...and Aaron comes across as more understanding of the fundie view...the DeLay decision in full view changing the playing field for the criminals on the right....

Everywhere I look and read the liberals act defeated and complicit, the righties boastful, obnoxious, hateful, flat-earth wishing to take us back to the stone age.

WHAT IS GOING ON???? WHEN DID BLACK BECOME WHITE??? WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE THAT THE COUNTRY JUST RELECTED A LYING, HYPOCRITICAL IDIOT....THIS MAKES ME SICK.......

sorry - my rant for tonight. I feel like we've woken into some weird, foreign reality that makes no real sense at all. Pinch me - wake me up - please tell me its only a nightmare!!!!

11. IT has
Here are the things I want you to do....

First off, get your hands on a GOOD history of the American Revolution (Howard Zinn prefeerably, you want one from the POV of the people)

Then THINK how did they ahem make a point? Well they signed petitions and all that but the brits truly started paying attention when we colonials started playing wiht the economy

THink about it how well do you think the Empire took the idea of an American MAKING a shovel? (Mercantilistic system, he is suposed to send goods, and import finished goods)

Ok now that you are thinkng how can you do this today?

Easy.

GET OUT OF DEBT, be thrifty, live within your means, and DO NOT get back into debt. YOU CANNOT PAY FOR IT, you don't need it. (I know I know the mortgage and all that but there is a rason for this)

Cancel ALL your credit cards but one, and the one you KEEP local trade union avoid MBNA, and if you have a citi card, CANCEL IT ASAP (Yes once mine is paid out guess what is next, canceling it)

Celebrate the spirit of the season but do not do what we do every year and get in debt until April... at the least, DO NOT buy anything or if you must, from LOCAL merchants, and DO LOOK for the Made in Amerca label...it does exist.

Thanksgiving... do with chicken, make sure them turkeys have to go on sale

Find LOCAL businesses that share your views and SUPPORT THEM, you cannot, Etalilers.

DO NOT go to Walmart or Starbucks for that matter

Get involved in peaceful CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE

Remember, governments depend on teh consent of the governed.

Oh and the revolution HAS started, just that the signs are not out there to see, because the MSM WILL NOT cover it for a good reason, FOLLOW THE MONEY

17. All great points - we are moving in that direction...a few other things we
are doing - simplifying our lives - giving away stuff we no longer need, throwing away those things that are not worth giving away, we cancelled our newspaper, stopped watching TV....are spending more time reading, listening to music, being out in nature.....refusing to get caught up in the commercial holiday crap.....and engaging people (particulary those who are in the * camp) in meaningful dialogue on why our country is now on the wrong track (at least TRYING to engage in meaningful dialogue...it does not always work, but when it does, is gratifying to turn the lights on for some people)...

we've not at all lost hope...just become a bit disoriented, but will find our equilibrium again... and we will keep fighting!!!!!

28. First, you are going to have to engage those that are
"supposedly" eye-to-eye with us. Talked with a Teamster today. He was telling me about a great deal he got at Nazimart.

"Nazimart, you shop the biggest Union Buster in America. You're a Teamster."

He thought for a moment and said he guessed not.

Now does that mean he won't shop Nazimart, or that he won't ever mention his bargains at Nazimart to me.

18. I'm Already There!

We are completely out of debt. Our credit cards have been blowtorched. No mortgage, we rent. Citicard cancelled.

All our Xmas shopping done in Santa Fe shops, local artisans.
We buy used clothing so as not to support overseas sweatshops.

Thanksgiving? TOFURKEY and we do NOT support factory farming, be it eggs, meat, by-products, leather or cosmetics! We buy cruelty free. Yes, I am into BDSM, but with latex, nylon and metal, not leather.
And BDSM is about Safe, Sane, Consensual (SSC) and Risk Acknowledging Consensual Kink (RACK)!

I haven't set foot in a Walmart or Starbucks in over two years.

I've done civil disobedience before and am ready again!

TOLD you I was a hippie!

And I will NEVER support the political system again. That goes DOUBLE for DEMOCRATS!

7. This might be
silly, but I think people need to keep speaking out. I think one of the reasons * and his group are so confident is not necessarily that they have more supporters than opponents, but because the opponents are far less vocal than the supporters. When I try to find news about what is going on with Specter, all I hear is how his office being flooded with calls from religious fundamentalists demanding that he conform to their will. Why aren't other groups flooding his office with calls demanding that he do his job and represent all his constituents. I think it will be hard for any democrat to risk greatness without a lot of very vocal prodding. It is not a matter of persuading people to accept your view so much as letting those who represent us know what we (those of us who are sane-minded and not religious fanatics) want.

Reality check: 55 million of us ARE AND HAVE BEEN speaking out. There is ONE BIG PROBLEM! The only people who hear us, or will print or report on what we say, have to be within a few feet of us.

Newspapers, television, and radio news have all come under the dictatorship of SIX MAJOR REPUBLICAN-SUPPORT COMPANIES, many with ties to the military industrial complex. We have our own voices, but we have NO access to the media. We are locked out, and have been locked out since AT LEAST 1990, but really since about 1986.

That is part of our agenda at DU...trying to find outlets to get our message out to the masses in America, in a good enough way to make people realize what has happened in our country.

Many people's first reaction is to fall back to the republican/ propaganda sound bite: "oh, that's just a conspiracy theory!" And then they turn off their brains that have been programmed for 20 years by right wing propaganda.

Our problem, you see, isn't that we HAVEN'T spoken out. The problem is THEY REFUSE TO REPORT IT!! It may have the horrible consequence of alerting one of the brainwashed to what is actually happening, and they just can't afford to let the word get out.

15. "Was it all just a dream? Did the last four years not really happen?"
Those were the first words in Fahrenheit 9/11.

To me, it feels like an episode of "Star Trek" or the movie "Back to the Future" where something goes wrong with the timeline of the universe and we get sent off in the wrong direction. When the Supreme Court stopped the Florida recount in 2000, that's when the hiccup occurred. That's when the train derailed, and we were diverted into the alternate reality that is the hellish present.

I thought we would be able to correct things Nov. 2, 2004. But it seems like we'll have to live with the bad Spock and his goatee for now until we prove vote fraud and impeach Bush.

16. Look at It this way... If You Gave a Diamond Necklace to A Friend

and told him "I need you to take this to a jeweler for me to have the clasp repaired" and then WATCHED as he gave the necklace to a passerby who claimed it was his...

What would you think?

Would you blame the passer by or would you lay the blame where it belongs... on your SO CALLED FRIEND?!!

Because, Children, that is EXACTLY WHAT JUST HAPPENED!

We handed the Democratic Party our diamond necklace (our votes, our work our hopes, our trust) and they GAVE IT AWAY! The republican passer-by KNEW the necklace was valuable and they just TOOK it out of the Democrats' hands and waltzed off with it!

And our hangdog "friend" comes back, hat in hand with "Well, maybe the necklace was his, after all. We can try to get it back by working with him. Trust me!"

Well.... WOULD YOU?!!

WELL?!

19. Your economic vote is
as powerful as your political vote....

Look and see where and what your investments are....

Do not shop at Walmart.....

Consolidate and conserve your energy use....

GET OUT OF DEBT.....

Do not, under any circumstance, get into debt with the IRS, especially if you are a small business........

Join a coop....

Shop at farmers markets.....

and all the other ideas that are on this post. It is so important to look at what it is you are doing with your money...

as an accountant. I see people giving money to The Cancer Society while owning Mutual Funds that are holding tobacco stock.....

Anti war people who own mutual funds that are holding GE or Lockheed Martin......

The show on NPR is On Point. and the co host is the most excellent raving liberal Jack Beatty of the Atlantic Monthly. and the host tom Ashbrook is a left of center very unbiased news host. NPR right wingish, it shows you don't listen to it much. by the way the variety shows are most excellent. Sorry didn't mean to be rude, NPR is the only sane talk radio in my area and it saved me from eternal republicanism.

31. Dude....
... maybe he meant to say "NPR News". Because although there are still some good shows on NPR, NPR News is horseshit, and after 17 years of sending them my money I will never again.

If you can't hear the blatant RW bias in the NPR news, you need new ears or a new brain. It is not as bad now as it was 2 years ago, but it's still pretty bad.

There is nothing worse than a news outlet that still carries the "liberal" label with a lot of people that dished out copious portions of the Heritage Foundation and the American Enterprise Institute.

Fuck NPR.

34. Maybe the real problem
is you CAN'T find a rational, mild voice on the Right anymore, certainly not a truthful one. NPR is all soft and cuddly and consensus. Easy to get liberals to play along. Being conciliatory to the ruling trolls wins them no respect from either side. I don't listen to it anymore since why bother when it is all one person modestly trying to get some rational thought against Triumph the Insult Wingnut.

In a normal RW nation all the NPR people and liberals would be in a Gulag waiting for the gallows. The Right WILL get impatient with this facade.

is here - over the loss of democracy. The media is part of the propaganda machine (CIA has just being coopted as well), along with the GOP and all government. Please remember:

''We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And
while you're studying that reality -- judiciously, as you will -- we'll
act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and
that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors . . . and you,
all of you, will be left to just study what we do.''

My biggest surprise is that most people haven't taken to the streets. My overriding question over the past 3 years has been "Where is the outrage?!"

Yes...this does not appear to be my country anymore...but it is MY country.

Please...someone with organizational skills start a groundswell of like-minded American citizens and PROTEST this administration like we did during Viet Nam. We must take action NOW.
