Is Hillary out of it for '08?
If she said today she's going to seek re-election to the Senate, I have a hard time believing she'd join the presidential race not too long after that. Any thoughts?

3. I think seeking Senate re-election would be to cover her ass for
the two years from 2006 - 2008. She just won't promise to stay in Senate this time, like she did last time. She had promised not to abandon New Yorkers in her first term, but her second? Let's see what happens...

5. Not running in 06 would preclude her from running in 08, I think.
Being in the Sentate keeps her in the spotlight. If she dropped out, I think some of her luster would leave. There's nothing wrong with a sitting Senator running for President.

Wasn't Kerry re-elected in 02? Maybe it was 00

8. i agree
but i guess my point was that given that you basically have to start running for president two years before the general election now is it something she would want to do, and is it something she'd be hounded about during her re-election campaign.

10. Well that's true
Yeah, she'll be hit with it every day, I'm sure.

How's the politics in New York? Will she be able to coast to victory, or will she have to work her ass off to win? It would totally suck to have to run two hard campaigns back to back!

6. Is there a reason I'm unaware of...
why everyone seems to think she actually *wants* to be president? I'm not saying people are wrong, I just want to know why everyone seems to be so goshdarned sure she wants to run.

Is it only because she ran for the Senate, or is there more?

9. Actually '08 would be the perfect time for her to run.
Edited on Thu Nov-18-04 06:15 PM by TwentyFive
Most NY voters will expect her to run for President in 2008. They want to keep her in office, because it increases her exposure and strength. Voters just look at her and know Hillary was meant to be the first woman president of the US. She has proven that she has the depth, intelligence and experience to handle any crisis that comes our way.

But more than that, she has got the compassion and wisdom to be a great leader. The fact that WJC would be 'first gentleman' is just icing on the cake.

11. so?
So? She can still run for President in 2008. Kerry has a Seat too and was going to give it up if he had won the Presidency.
