President Gore disrespected at the Libary opening
Gore defended Clinton more than anyone and Clinton really cost Gore in 2000, yet today he hardly said a sentence about him. He also was cast away from the other "Presidents". It just makes me sick.

9. Here is all Clinton said.
"I want to say a special word of thanks to Al Gore and to Tipper for the indispensable contribution that they made. And I told Al today that this library won an international environmental award, even though it's got a lot of glass. Because of solar panels and a lot of other improvements, we cut the energy usage here by 34 percent. So Al, thanks for the inspiration, and I'm still trying to measure up to the challenge you set for me so long ago."

2. Gore wasn't so nice after the fact...in the background. Tipper who
is just a step away from being a Rethug herself wasn't a nice girl behind the scenes either.

Gore should have put Clinton into action in the Black Community especially in Florida. He may have won more convincingly.

3. Geez, made him carry his own umbrella huh?
Wow, that really is a show of disrespect. I don't think Clinton cost Gore anything in 2000 either. Clinton would have won that election, so it just doesn't make sense that he could "cost Gore" anything.

7. Please, just look at post 2000 polls
People voted against Gore because of Clinton's personal problems. Only someone in denile wouldn't see that.

16. I guess I'm in major denial then, because I know Clinton would have won
If people had really voted against Gore because of Clinton, then doesn't it stand to reason that they would have also voted against Clinton himself? And does anybody really believe that Bill Clinton would NOT have defeated GWB in 2000?

4. Not true. Not only did he mention him in the opening list of dignitaries,
Clinton made a point of discussing the energy effieciency of the building and how Gore inspired this.

But more importantly, Clinton offered a very personal message, although I think it was in code when he said..."I thank you for giving me the challenge that I am still trying to live up to." (sic)

I took that to mean that Gore set an example for Clinton in terms of his character and it seemed like a very poignant olive branch. I found it very moving.

5. Not what I heard
I heard him say more about Al Gore than Carter or Bush 1. The only reason he said alot in regards to W was because he was challenging him to do more in the ME and other areas.

22. I agree; while he didn't mention Gore up front, he sure did towards the
end. A few sentences about the environmental positives about the center and kind words about Tipper and Al.

6. Geez
Clinton didn't "cost Gore" anything, the fucking stolen election did.

And Gore wasn't up there with the other presidents (both present and former) because he isn't one and wasn't one, that's why. Not a snub.

Did you see Cheney with Carter, Clinton, bush and bush?

Nope.

Same thing. It was just protocol.

17. I have to agree with you.
Al Gore's speeches this past year are the BEST speeches I have ever heard come out of his mouth. I kept yelling at him through my monitor (watching cspan online) that if ONLY he had been like this in 2000, he could have taken that election by a huge margin and there would have been no need for even going through that whole fiasco in Florida. Gore sounded like he was running for president this year... gone was the aloof stiffness that seemed to be there when he was campaigning or in the debates. Al was being the real Al this year, and many people never saw that before. I know I didn't.

no matter what you say, you cannot please all of the people all of the time.

Actually, this was Clinton's day... he could say whatever he damned well pleased.

So whatever.......

15. What?? If Gore ran on Clinton's record, and not away from it,
the election wouldn't have been close enough for Bush to steal it. Sorry, I think Gore is OK but he screwed up, he should have put his arm around Clinton in 2000 and it would still be there today. Gore blew it.

18. Gore had his chances
He could have sunk the Clinton presidency by not supporting Clinton in 1998. Gore would have taken over the office and would have easily been re-elected in 2000. Considering he won in 2000, Gore had multiple chances to be prez -- bad luck I guess.

19. Gore does not look well....
...pasty and bloated, and I don't mean that in a "mean" way. I mean that in an unhealthy way. Tipper actually looks better than she did in 2000....she may be very happy with the way things turned out.

20. I do think that the Clinton scandal handicapped Gore
At the time, Clinton was persona non grata in parts of the south, and would not have been able to campaign succesfully for Gore. Though I think that Clinton would have helped in slightly self-righteous places like Nevada and Ohio.

Gore really took Tennessee for granted, an incredibly dumb mistake. He barely dropped by to say "hello, remember me?" But I give him credit for his fantastic campaigning effort in Florida. He DID win that state, which makes the stolen election only more painful.

21. Well,
I think Clinton did thank Gore and Tipper for all their hard work. I was put off by how much Clinton went out of his way to praise the chimp! That to me was sickening! Also I don't think Clinton cost Gore anything in 2000. Gore won after all and it was Gore's decision not to use Clinton in his 2000 campaign, not Clinton's. I wanted Gore to run in '04 because I felt he deserved it and I thought they really couldn't say anymore about him, ie, their slanders toward him would not be validated in '04. He wouldn't have anything to do with the policy of the last four years and he could have rightly stated, "Are you better off now then you were 4 years ago?" And he came out at least 3 times against *'s policies and he was right! His "lock box" with regard to SS was right on! And now we see that, if we didn't before.
