Hannity compared discredited account of Kerry Silver Star incident to U.S. Marine shooting wounded Iraqi prisoner

On November 13, a U.S. Marine shot and apparently killed a wounded and unarmed Iraqi prisoner in a Fallujah mosque, an incident that embedded NBC News correspondent Kevin Sites captured on film and included in a pool report. On November 16, FOX News Channel host Sean Hannity compared that incident to discredited allegations that Senator John Kerry earned his Silver Star award, while in Vietnam, for shooting a wounded and retreating Viet Cong. The right-wing website NewsMax.com published an article with the headline, "Fallujah Marine in Trouble for Pulling a Kerry." But there are crucial differences between the recent Fallujah incident and the events leading to Kerry's Silver Star.

Apparently referring to claims by Kerry critics (among them John E. O'Neill, co-founder of the anti-Kerry group Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, now called Swift Vets and POWs for Truth), Hannity stated on the November 16 edition of Hannity & Colmes: "It was alleged that John Kerry did something similar when he was serving, and the same people that held him up as a hero ... he same people that are criticizing these guys voted for Kerry. ... It's hypocritical." Of the action Kerry took against an armed Viet Cong, Hannity asked: "Did he shoot a guy in the back? Did he shoot a guy in the back?"

That said, there is no comparison between shooting an unarmed wounded Iraqi and shooting a wounded combatant who was still armed, in the middle of a fire fight.

Note that it says nothing about killing a Vietcong soldier, wounded or otherwise. BTW, those of us who've been in combat know that even wounded enemies can be very dangerous, particularly if they're still conscious and carrying weapons. Unconscious, unarmed enemies do not pose a threat and are not to be shot in the head under any circumstances although they should be watched until they have been removed from the area. Do you have any evidence that the soldier that Kerry may have shot was unconscious and unarmed?
Of course the cowardly shit hasn't responded. These people give scum a bad name. WHEN IS KERRY GOING TO GO AFTER THESE PEOPLE? Excuse the shout, but this dishonors us all. This morning I listened to some "Christian" talk radio just to see what the attraction to fundamentalism is...

A woman caller was asking the radio personality about whether she thought it was very good for her daughter to engage in playing "combat games".
The radio host asked "what would be your objection"...the caller said "well, I don't want her to think killing if a sport or a game"...
The radio host replied that "Killing of OK biblically, there is always justification for killing, I mean if someone breaks in your house, then you have EVERY BIBLICAL JUSTIFICATION for killing them, that there are evil ones that deserve to be killed"... the caller was then told she had a "prejudice" against her little girl by not letting her engage in combat games and then encouraged her to send her somewhere to learn how to shoot a gun and martial arts.
Needless to say, the caller was practically speechless...and could not express her convictions with any authority...
I am thinking to myself, what kind of people think "killing is OK biblically". I think of Jesus' admonishment to "turn the other cheek", to love they neighbor as thyself! These words of wisdom from this fully actualized being are now being twisted into, killing's OK (cause the bible tells me so).
I am astounded to hear the kind of things they call "Christian"...and I become more clear in my opinion that right wing fundamentalism is a "Christian cancer" AND only good people who truly adhere to the words of Christ can cure these people. If the soldier in question shot out of a misconceived fear for his life, who can blame him? He had suffered wounds just a couple days earlier. Also, another soldier had died in recent days from an "injured" insurgent who was booby-trapped. We have no way of knowing what his frame of mind was.

But, if he just shot him for the hell of it, that is an entirely different story. No excuse.

I keep hearing "This happens during war". Sadly, it does. We have battle weary men over there, some for well over a year now. We have troops that were told a year and a half ago that it was a "Mission accomplished".

Even if the comparison made were true it would still be facetious, if a Vietcong soldier is running 'away' he could have been seen as running for cover if he were still armed, that was also supposedly in a firefight.

Not that I believe that crap, I saw the investigation done about it and believe the military report. Even so, that account sounds viable and realistic to where a courts martial would not likely to be filed.

Where as this marine went into a situation that was obviously under control, with a cameraman with him so he already knew that he needed to keep on the up and up. He still decided to shoot the wounded man after SECURE had been yelled and confirmed in the background, they should have been 'at the ready' but not trigger happy. Proper procedure would have been to check the man for traps quickly after enduring he was unarmed. Not execute then search.

The Administration leaking the story of another soldier being killed by a person playing possum only proves further that they are desperately trying to spin this as damage control, especially if one considers how much that is affecting the Middle Easterners.
