Do you think they are going to use this Vioxxx thing as a way to shake-up or even privatize the FDA? It's just like them, to take an issue, point a finger at something they want to change, then change things even though they'll allow more issues like the first.

The FDA will lose credibility - will either be overhauled, or privatized. Whatever form it takes will allow widespread outsourcing of clinical trials. The trials done in the states cannot enroll huge amounts of people, are expensive and take time (enrollment phase can last up to a year or more). India has the population to fill the trials in a short amount of time for next to nothing. This is the dream situation for money-grubbing drug companies. It's where we're headed.
The safety problem will not be fixed, will only get worse. It's not what they care about anyway. They don't care if people die taking their drugs.

2. Trials can always be outsourced |

However, in 3d World areas getting good science is just more difficult.
The main problem is drug manufacturers only report good trials and bury bad ones.
NTSB has the same problems.
