1. You're on the right track... |
...but nearly every politician steers away from the word 'ethics'.

3. All the more reason to grab the word, IMHO |
Maybe the next paradigm will be set by the politician who uses ethics as a centerpiece.

7. I'll compare my values with a conservative any day |
here in Mississippi. I'm happily married for 31 years, zero criminal record, 24 years military service, law abiding, tax paying productive citizen and a flaming constitution loving liberal to boot. What do the local conservatives have to offer; divorce, incest, teen pregnancy, spousal abuse, ignorance, trash on the roadside, the confederate flag and obesity. I'LL STICK WITH MY VALUES VERSUS THEIRS UNTIL THEY GIVE MY WIFE MY FLAG.
Conservatives find it so much easier to trash others than to clean up their own mess.

8. Took the words out of my mouth |
Values dont mold and shape our country or the future. All they do is cloud the issues that matter, issues like whether me as a 17 year old will have social security of have a 10 trillion dollar deficit to pay down. democrats run the table when it comes to the important issues, and the republicans only have "values", and the scary thing is, America voted for values.

10. If you're talking about |
why people voted the way they did...I would say "beliefs". Beliefs, if you've ever tried to examine and change your own, are persistant little buggers, and since they come into your consciousness at an early age, are difficult to change. "killing babies is bad" "It's bad to be a queer" "There are good guys and bad guys and we're the good guys and we need guns to protect ourselves against the bad guys" "Daddy knows best." "god will punish you if you are bad." And we're scared that those bad guys, those strangers are going to take away our money as well as our lives, wives, unborn babies etc. People do believe this at gut level which is not particularly amenable to reason. And the Bush strategists played on these fears and beliefs. Brilliantly and without any qualms as to methods. Democrats talked about how "dumb" Bush is.( and not that dumb, smart enough not to get caught) Well, looking at the grading curve, there are very few A or high B students. The greatest number are c, d, and F students, and those probably identified with Bush. He''s like us, he understands our problems...Even being an alcoholic. This country runs on alcohol and drugs. Sorry for the rant... I got carried away.

11. Too hoity-toity. Stick with values. |
Plus people don't vote on ethics, if they did Bush would not have been reelected. They vote on values, and I think most people think he shares their values.

make a point of clearly defining "values" as *our* values, not repug values.
