Kerry's Petition...DID YOU SIGN IT YET?!!!
I finally got his letter and video address. It is so great to hear from him. He sounds really strong and determined. He needs us to sign his petition (actually to co-sponsor the bill) for Childrens Healthcare. He is going to take it to the Senate floor...the more signatures...THE BIGGER IMPACT! Have you signed it yet? Come back and declare yourself when you have!.....

Link to video and Petition....

1. sher did.
Just like a million other E-petitions over the course of the year. It's kinda like playing the lottery. You know you're probably wasting your time, but there's always that tiny tiny chance that something will come of it. Sigh. Oh well, at least it's free to sign the petition.

5. Yes
Yes I did. And I believe this is our new beginning.

I had heard through the media sources that Kerry would stay in the spotlight but lately he's been laying low. I was waiting for something like this to happen and I'm glad it finally did.

If anything, guys, this shows you that Kerry isn't going to give up on us first of all, and second, that he's going to be here again in 2008.

This, I expect, will be just the beginning of the surprises Kerry has in store for you guys who believe he's going to just disappear. He won't. Not only that, but it should also prove to you, that he cares about us. What's he got to lose now? He could easily just forget that we never existed. That the campaign never happened. Al Gore all but disappeared after the 2000 election. John Kerry won't. That sends the message to me that he cares and he's counting on us to help shape our country.

One of the things I loved about Dean and Edwards was their message of populism...people have the power to change the country and change the world.

Kerry not only adopted this message....he believes in it too. Even stronger now after seeing us fight for him in this campaign.

He believes in us.

Believe in him. This is history making...for a senator to turn to the nation at large to sponsor a bill. I don't think this has ever been done. Now, doesn't that say something to you?

when they become adults is it ok to abandon them to join the rest of us in no-healthcare land?

I'm sorry, but it's bullshit.

Why doesn't he fight to get rid of the fucking machines that stole our democracy. THEN we can get the people into office who can fix that ENTIRE healthcare system.

7. He's going to.
Edited on Fri Nov-19-04 04:11 PM by Aloha717200
He's going to do that, it's on his agenda.

But one thing at a time. This is only the beginning of what's in store for the next 4 years. While Bush ravages our country Kerry will be fighting to save it.

I believe in his video message he specifically says:

"I will fight for a national standard for federal elections that has both transparency and accountability in our voting system. It's unacceptable in the United States that people still don't have full confidence in the integrity of the voting process.

I ask you to join me in this cause."

So, he IS going to fight for verified voting and legitimate elections. It's on his agenda. He's made that clear.

Have faith!

8. Why is it bullshit?
Because it is targeted legislation designed to ACCOMPLISH something, as opposed to sweeping legislation that might get YOU all excited but is doomed to failure.

The Clintons tried sweeping health care reform and got their asses handed to them. Kerry has learned the lessons of the nineties.

If you think that incremental reform is bullshit, that it's gotta be TOTAL OVERHAUL or nothing, then prepare yourself for nothing.

9. Because when you're older...
You can get a job and get your own damn healthcare. Kids have more medical needs and cannot get healthcare on their own. Nuff said.

Besides, it's a good start toward the final goal of a national healthcare system.

Petition signed.

15. Read it again.
"Our plan starts by providing health insurance for every child in America. Under the Kerry plan, the federal government will pay the full costs for the 20 million children in the Medicaid program. In return, we will ask states to expand coverage to children in families with higher incomes than are currently eligible, as well as low-income adults."

Hard to vote 'no' on kids. For some reason Americans are loathe to consider a national health care plan. We have to start someplace.

47. my point is, kerry was powerless against bush and his goons.
Edited on Fri Nov-19-04 08:20 PM by flordehinojos
do you really think that he has any power against them now? i don't think so. He conceded the election to bush when he could have stood his ground and fought to have every vote counted. He just bent his knee and said, "yes, sir. you win"... well that is not what i thought a swift boat fighter would do. Why is he promising to be a swift boat fighter now when, as I see it, he spent all his credibility. As far as I am concerned, he has none left.

And, why isn't he following protocol and asking his colleagues in the Senate to co-sponsor the bill with him? That would be protocol. I wonder just how many of his colleagues in the senate feel disappointed by him and while they may praise him publicly, privately they may not even want to look at him straight in the face.

I'll be glad to take back my words if I am wrong.

"Normally, a member of the Senate will first approach other senators and ask them to co-sponsor a bill before it is introduced -- instead, I am turning to you."

It seems to me he is by-passing protocol.

28. This is very interesting. He may have found a way to president to half the
country via the web. Think of it. There is no way we can get behind Bush. There can be no coming together as long as Dubya continues with his plans and refuses to admit mistakes. People can take action through Kerry if he handles this right.
For the record, I liked a number of candidates better than Kerry, but I feel like we need to stay united behind something. One of those things is election reform. Perhaps that can be the bill after healthcare.

61. We'd be a lot better off if he'd done this 4 years ago...
but better late than never.

What's really nice about this is that it's an attempt to set an alternative agenda. Rather than merely reacting to GOP actions, if Democrats continue with initiatives like this they'll be forcing the hand of the GOP. That's what being an effective opposition is all about. They may not have the votes to affect legislation, but they have the soapbox to stand on to influence our national discourse.

Hopefully Kerry will keep it up and hopefully other Senators will engage in similar activities.

33. Happy To Participate
And so I proudly signed.

While petitions happen all of the time, it seems unprecedented that a Senator would petition America and include them as co-sponsors on legislation. Such a petition *could* very well could change the congressional landscape, getting us more directly involved in the process.

I am glad to see this from Kerry--definitely a good sign... 1st) It means that Kerry continues to fight for us. 2nd)He's following through on campaign promises and agenda regardless of election outcomes 3) He's still fighting for the integrity of the electoral process (and the key word I heard - transparency)

This is the best I've felt since Nov. 3. I now look forward to seeing what JK will do next.

I particular like this part:

"You moved voters, helped hold George Bush accountable, and countered the attacks from big news organizations such as Fox, Sinclair Broadcasting, and conservative talk radio."

and this

"Despite the words of cooperation and moderate sounding promises, this administration is planning a right wing assault on values and ideals we hold most deeply. Healthy debate and diverse opinion are being eliminated from the State Department and CIA, and the cabinet is being remade to rubber stamp policies that will undermine Social Security, balloon the deficit, avoid real reforms in health care and education, weaken homeland security, and walk away from critical allies around the world."

Don't tell me this man doesn't understand what's going on.

51. I'll sign it when there are provisions...
for healthcare for everybody. I know that would be harder to pass especially in a Republican Congress but we have to take steps in this direction because there are too many adults and children without healthcare.

I'm not against healthcare for children but adults are the ones who take care of the children and if they're not able and healthy the children end up in foster care or worse.

Jesus fucking christ. I wanna see universal health care too, but it's not gonna happen under this congress. Kerry will have a much easier time getting this bill passed, and if it doesn't pass, he'll have a much easier time of making the Republicans look like a bunch of uncompassionate monsters.

Kerry is fighting. He may hold out little hope for changing the past election, but he has told us that he will fight to make it transparent and auditable. Because he will fight, we must continue to SHOUT that we believe that this election was TAINTED. Voter supression, vulnerability to hacking, opaque tallying ... All of these things need to STOP. And they need to STOP before 2006.

I'm behind Kerry on this issue and the one after that and the one after that...

It was really uplifting hearing his words. He's not giving up, now I'm more ready than ever to fight on. I think his choice of a first bill is sheer genius--if the republicans try to stop it, they'll really look like heartless jerks (which they are), but it will be so obvious to everyone.

72. Wanna see what I wrote?
I still haven't given up hope! A second term for Bush scares the daylights out of me. His proposed "mental health screening" for all CHILDREN without parental consent (as it is written now) while being in bed with pharmaceutical companies. I believe there is precedent now to charge a parent with child abuse if they refuse to drug their children if it is determined to be "necessary". His overhaul of the tax code that may cut tax breaks for employers providing health care to employees. The possibility of another draft. The fact that other countries are boycotting American made products will devastate our already shaky economy. The environment can't take another 4 years of George Bush. We need you to stand and fight against this destructive, maniacal, self serving administration. Please RETRACT YOUR CONCESSION! It is utter hogwash that the Republican party is standing on the moral high ground while they lie, cheat and even steal from the American people. It is a smokescreen designed to put the people that stand against Bush on the defensive. We MUST remain on the offensive and not fall into their hypocritical traps. I believe you have taken the smart road thus far and allowed the current administration to grow complacent in their win so you and others could have easier access to the truth. When the time comes, and it must come soon, I believe you will do the right thing for America and unconcede. The America, as we know and love, cannot afford to wait another 4 years.

Sincerely,

P.S. Thanks to Cam!! :)

I wrote this request on 11-10-2004, and e-mailed it to your congressional e-mail address:

I believed in you when you saluted and said "reporting for duty". We still need you and you have not been dismissed. You have been elected President but it has been taken from you. If you just give up without a fight, how will you inspire confidence for a run in 2008? Look at it this way, if a rock star came out and gave everyone the finger instead of another song in response to a clamoring for a curtain call, how many fans do you suppose he would lose? Many of us paid more than we could afford for tickets to this show...in money, time and energy. We deserve a curtain call!! We still have fight in us and need to know you are behind us as we were behind you!!!

,
