A letter I sent to the county democratic central committee |
|
When I heard that Harry Reid was chosen for the Democratic minority leader seat:
Fellow democrats-
Hary Reid, the proposed new senate minority leader, is a pro-life pro-gun "democrat" who believes Daschle and other Democrats lost their seats for being "excessive obstructionists" against President Bush's policies.
In other news, Kerry and Lieberman (along with Bob Novak and Jerry Fallwell) say that Howard Dean is a bad choice for DNC chair because he's too "LIBERAL". Vilsack is slated to be the heir aparent (according to the Kerry camp)
The democratic party may soon assume the same shade of greenish beige as the general color of the universe. Although there are many vibrant and positive people working for the advancement of democratic ideals, at the hands of the politicians who we chose to represent us, we are evidently destined to become unrecognizable as the party we once aspired to be.
Today is another sad day for democracy.

Thanks for lumping Kerry incorrectly with the other assholes. WHERE has Kerry said that Dean is "too liberal" for the DNC chair"?
Voices in your head? The fish in the fishbowl sent you a "magic message"?

2. by the way, Dean is also pro-gun |
|
He claims a high rating with the NRA. I believe he also supports the death penalty. He's pro-choice, but so are virtually all Democrats (with the exception of Dennis Kucinich before his campaign conversion). I don't see that Dean's terribly liberal or leftist. The media certainly pegged him that way, but that doesn't make it so. Dean's greatest strength is that he is not afraid to challenge the Republicans. He was anti-war (but so was Pat Buchanan). Furthermore, Dean calls himself a fiscal conservative. Kerry is far more a typical liberal than Dean. What distinguished Dean was his demeanor and fearlessness--excellent traits, but not liberal ones. I supported Dean, but this left-center typology that many people attribute to certain Democrats doesn't really hold up. I've said this before on DU and am probably sounding like a broken record, but I think we need to get beyond this left-center discourse. It's a remnant of the Cold War and not terribly descriptive of American politics today.

3. Harry Reid is a capitulating DINO |
|
I understand your point about Dean not being a liberal...I've been making that same point for over a year. I also firmly understand that Dean is not an ideal candidate from a liberal perspective.
The choice of Reid for Dem. minority leader is a harbinger of sad things to come for the democratic party.
