Republicans are looking for revenues like they're looking for Easter eggs
They see the writing on the wall. They have just raised the debt limit by $800 billion. The deficits are not going to disappear. We are not going to grow ourselves out of this mess that Bush and the Repubs have gotten us into.

The first rock they look under is the "internets" rock. We will put a tax on them and raise the revenue to balance the budget, they seem to think. The contradiction in their Party pablum is so obvious. Why tax the one area of our economy that has the potential for growth? Won't taxes simply stymie that growth? Isn't that what they always say?

1. An idea
let's tax abortions
let's tax condoms
let's tax school books that don't mention intelligent design
let's tax physics and biology books
let's tax oral contraceptives
let's tax those who shop on sundays, unless their pre-approved church has stamped their hands.
let's tax all anti-war demonstrators
let's tax anyone who sues a corporation for injuries
let's tax anyone who claims to be hurt by asbestos or Vioxx
let's tax anyone who refuses to have their kids undergo government approved mental testing
let's tax anyone using the internet
let's tax anyone who dares call these taxes unpatriotic

2. lets trademark the word 'tax'
so we can censor all this tax dissent by suing them for trademark infringement.

Kind of like the way they gave the rights to the word "Olympic" to the Olympics commitee.

3. Yup.
But I think that it also has to do with their inability to control the flow of information on the internet to their advantage. It was also used effectively against repugs in the election, and in the vote fraud efforts.

If they tax it enough, they can make it less affordable for lower/middle income families that are having increasing problems with making ends meet as it is.

Just a thought.

4. Cut taxes, start wars and let God sort it out

The Dems have the advantage (or disadvantage) of seeing the big picture.

Republicans are concerned with a narrow scope of things: money, power, material possessions and oh yeah God. If it's good for them, do it. In the end the environment suffers, tax-based social programs and economies suffer.

They make their money, get their power and in the end look out and see that it is good even when the world is crumbling because of them.

And when it all goes wrong they will see fit to blame all others.

5. You are closer to what's behind the RadCon/TheoCOn agenda
than you may be aware of.

Call it "governing for the end-times." I for one, don't really believe Bush and his cronies believe in the end times philosophy, but they do know a whole huge heck of a lot of their voters do.

It's simple, too: Why worry about the deficit, the environment, education, and health care when the end times are upon us and only the "evil" will be "Left Behind?"

Our barely existent policy in the Middle East serves the end times philosophy well, too. Bush uses the word "evil" very much on purpose.

You want to know more? Read one of the BESTSELLING "Left Behind" series by Tim Lahaye and Jenkins. There are a whole lot of people out there bathing in this literary Kool-Aid, not to mention drinking it.

These are some scary-ass people; and as a Christian who puts her faith in the New Testament, they give ME the major creeps.

7. Well if there is a nuclear war and all the population centers are nuked
Edited on Sat Nov-20-04 12:05 PM by w4rma
then won't it be the Repugs who are "left behind" while the Dems are raptured up by the nukes.

6. why do you need revenues when you have your children's credit card?
I wish they'd find some dang revenues - at least when you pay for something outright you don't end up paying interest on it. Bush loves to say "it's your money," but it's out debt too (and our children's).
