This is well worth considering...

Bush deserves 2nd term to clean up mess

By JONATHAN CHAIT, Special to the Los Angeles Times

Published: Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004

An editor at the paper suggested that I use this week’s column to try to make the most honest and persuasive case I could for President Bush’s reelection.

At first, I was skeptical. To say that I consider Bush a “bad” president would be a severe understatement. I think he’s bad in a way that redefines my understanding of the word “bad.”

I used to think U.S. history had many bad presidents. Now, my “bad” category consists entirely of George W. Bush, with every previous president redefined as “good.”

There’s also the fact that, on a personal level, I despise him with the white-hot intensity of a thousand suns. What I’m saying is, advocating Bush is kind of tricky.

1. That's a rationalization, too, among some of those who voted for him

It is also supposed to be our "consolation prize," but it doesn't console me. It's like hoping the guy that beat the crap out of you last week is going to change and recognize the error of his ways and fix things.

I think bush is like the abusive husband who progresses from emotional abuse, to verbal abuse, to physical abuse, and eventually he damn near kills you.

As Chait says: "Begin with the premise that a second-term Bush administration is unlikely to make things a whole lot worse."

That's where the argument collapses. Nice try, no cigar.

Edit: How do you like my pretty little star, Jane? Thanks! :hi:

2. Didn't mean it like that...
Meant it as a gleeful getting to watch him go down, if we're not successful in proving fraud in time to prevent his going forward.

3. I don't see him cleaning up any messes
Seems more like he's entrenching. I think they don't give a damn about any of us.

4. The thing is, without senate or congress to block the worst
excesses, things can definitely get much worse.
