Lieberman: New Secretary of Homeland Security?
That is the hot new rumor along with Gov. Rell appointing Rep. Nancy Johnson to Lieberman's senate seat.

1. Just another attempt by the repubs to steal a senate seat so that
their majority goes up? Is the seat gonna be filled by a dem if Lieberman finally admits he is really a republican at heart?

10. That was my FIRST THOUGHT when I heard about
Lieberman maybe taking a cabinet post. I wish he would have the balls to decline.

2. Talk about lose/lose
If this happens, not only do we lose a Senate seat, we get blamed for the next terror attack. I wouldn't put it past Joe to give the knife he's planted, a nice twist.

4. Well, that would be just like Joementum
to sacrifice a critically needed Senate seat on the alter of "bipartisanship" with the Bushies. If he does this, I will have even less respect for him than I did, and I didn't think that was possible.

5. Respect?
I'll have outright hatred for him.

I already despise him after the way he acted during the last year.

7. I'm Not A Joe Fan
but one can't honor the facts and simultaneously say Lieberman's a Pug...

He has a lifetime ADA score of 76... That makes him a moderate liberal and to the left of any Pug currently serving...

9. My problem
Edited on Sun Nov-21-04 12:32 PM by fujiyama
isn't really with his vote record. I'll be the first to admit he has a good record on choice, the environment, taxes, and domestic policies in general. In fact I used to defend him quite a bit.

It was bad enough during the primaries when he constantly defended the war, but I still continued defending his record on other matters. It stopped however after he dismissed Richard Clarke's statements about the war and Bush being weak on terrorism. Instead of taking them seriously he brushed them aside and dismissed them. His statement was "I see no evidence of the administration doing that". That too, this was at the begining of the campaign when the first round of attacks had come out around Kerry.

That wasn't the only occassion. When Abu Ghraib came out, I remember him making the RW comment asking why no one apologized for 9/11, somehow trying to link Iraq with 9/11. He seemed to dismiss the importance of the scandal. Even McCain was much more forceful in condemning what happened. McCain was asked somewhere what he thought of Lieberman's comment and he said "I respectfully DISAGREE with my colleauge".

Then he went to FL and gave a half assed endorsement to Kerry, stating how Bush was such a strong advocate for Israel - making the point that the only way to be a friend to Israel is to give Sharon a green light on whatever he wants to do.

There are probably other incidents that I can't think of at the moment. Either way the Joementum is gone. He's a sell out and while he's not nearly as bad as Zell Miller, he's still not much of a help to the party in general.

11. As I Said I'm Not A Big Joe Fan..
I didn't like his attack dog personnae during the primaries especially his gratuitous attacks on Wes Clark...

He said Clark didn't have a clear position on the war when in reality he opposed it from the gitgo...

I'm just saying a Pug in that seat could be worse...

13. I think it would be quite a bit worse
to lose yet another Senate seat to the Pugs. We simply can't afford to lose any more.

I don't think there is anything that Joementum could do to moderate Bush's policies. The policies out of that regime will be Bush's, no matter who the frontman is. The most that Joe could do is give them a veneer of bipartisan respectability. I don't see what good would possibly come out of that.

16. I don't really think
Edited on Sun Nov-21-04 12:59 PM by fujiyama
we disagree. My fault - I didn't make it very clear. I'd still rather the seat is kept in Democratic hand myself. We can't afford to even lose any seats at this point - 5 more and Dems won't even have the power to filibuster.

That's why I think it'd be a disaster if he left to join the administration. Doesn't CT have a Repuke governor?

8. For the love of God
When is he up for re-election? There must be a terrific Democrat in Connecticut who can run against him.

This man is an embarrassment.

Duh, Joe---Did you ever think that when the next attack comes as the head of Dept of Homeland Security---They can once again blame the Democrats.

What an idiotic attention hog.

14. Lieberman will use Homeland Security to crack down on antiwar and...
pro-Palestinian rights demonstrators. Lieberman would turn Homeland Security into an American Shin Bet, Israel's internal security service.
