The irony of Humvees
How ironic that American kids are dying in old, poorly armored Humvees in Iraq basically to protect the "right" of a few pretentious yuppies to drive new, loaded Humvees in the suburbs.

Kinda makes me sick to my stomach. Kinda makes me want to key a Hummer just for the hell of it.

1. They're not really Humvees. They are just as phony as their owners
They are Chevy Tahoes dressed up in a flight suit.

3. Didn't think I could have less respect for H2 poseurs
but I was wrong.
It's amazing how many people see pretension and extravagance as "freedoms." More like a way to celebrate the lack of freedom of those they run over.

7. Phony...
I was watching football today and a commercial came on for the Hummer. It showed the Hummer driving through a variety of beautiful outdoor scenery such as mountains, forests, etc...

I told my wife, "Can you believe these people? They are using the environment to sell these things. How is that for hypocrites.?"

I just noticed the license plate in the photo of the Hummer and it reads "CPTLISM"...how much of an asshole is the driver of that truck?

2. Yeah, and a potato stuffed up the tailpipe works better.
Of course, it's a waste of a good potato, so consider your action very carefully.

Edited on Sun Nov-21-04 06:07 PM by GoPsUx
Business can right off a certain wieght of automobile for thier business.
Well what do ya know the humvee is the only non-commercial vehicle that meets that wieght...So instead of paying several thousand dollars on taxes business can get basically a free humvee

6. Surefire way to get your Humvee "keyed", or worse.
Last week, we made a day trip to Ganges, Saltspring Island, British Columbia to visit friends.

For those of you who aren't familiar with Saltspring, it's a gorgeous, laid-back, self-sustainable, old-school lefty paradise located ninety minutes away from Vancouver via ferry.

It's full of laid-back folks; artists, writers, musicians, organic farmers and the like, all of whom years ago found their version of nirvana on Saltspring. Very few people need a car; most can get by with a bike or moped, and half the population leaves their car on the mainland anyway for these obvious reasons.

WORSE KEPT DARK ISLAND SECRET: Americans, mostly Microsoft types from Seattle, have been quietly "buying the place up" for years (long before the current "troubles"), sending real estate prices soaring, and generally changing the "feel" of the place. However, they DO keep to themselves, and offer little if nothing to the community.

SEEN LAST WEEK AT AN OUTDOOR CAFE IN GANGES: A "SECURITY MOM" FROM WASHINGTON STATE IN A HUMVEE. Truly the most offensive, yet hilarious, sight I've seen in ages, esp. in a place like this. The whole town "stopped dead", not unlike one of those old westerns when the stranger pulls into town. Some town folk (a few of the "older types") actually approached this woman in a very friendly manner, and sincerely offered her up some "advice" on just how inappropriate, not to mention "asking for it", it was in bringing her vanity monstrosity onto the island.

An "international (keying) incident" in the works if there ever was one. I'm still wondering how "Security Mom" fared on her visit.
