For the upcoming draft - adopt-a-con
You must all know someone who voted for *. When they come for you or your children, just point them to one of the armchair warriors for help. For example, Anthony Munoz signed the "athletes for Smirk" letter. He's got two kids, both of whom play NCAA D1 sports. As a supporter of the Operation I'm A War President, he should be more than willing to send them so that your kids won't have to go. Todd Walker and Carlos Beltran also signed that paper - suit 'em up.

1. Werenotsorry.com - it's full of young, strapping
individuals who I'm sure would be willing to go to Iraq. Some even have their own weapons already. :)

2. Did you also get the sense....
that the guys posing with all of their big guns were, perhaps, trying to compensate for certain inadequacies?

5. I was curious
if there is any way to track when * supporters realize how wrong they are and start regretting their decision to support *. Is there a poll that polls * voters to see if they are still happy with their choice. One of my students (who is one year short of voting age) told me the other day that he had changed his mind about the * presidency and is now really disappointed * is president. What do you think? When will the truth finally start dawning on people?

7. well, if it didn't happen yet...
I don't really see it happening now. I mean *'s first four years were pretty much of an unmitigated disaster. What could happen now to make someone change his/her mind? Quality-of-life wise, things can't get much worse.

OTOH, there is an old saying that a recession turns into a depression when the economist loses HER job. Maybe if Anthony Munoz's son goes to the ME and comes back missing a hand, or with PTSD, Anthony's enthusiasm for Smirk's Bogus Journey will dampen. But even in this case, I don't see Beltran or Walker coming to their senses.

19. Hi, Poppet!
Welcome to DU. :hi:

One way to test your theory would be a simple "who did you vote for?" poll. Kennedy, as you know, just barely beat Nixon in the 1960 election, but when a poll was conducted in 1964, over 70% of the people polled said they voted for Kennedy. Clearly, people change their minds and regret their decisions. I think the Democrats should take just such a poll in 2006 to see how the wind is blowing and whether people have changed their minds about *. The results would be very interesting.

16. Why wait? Be proactive!
I am sending email to all Bush supporters I know, with the links to the recruiting sites for all branches of the armed forces. In some cases, I am also including the phone number of their local recruiter.

I include a quick note, something to the effect of:

"I know how much you support President Bush and the war effort in Iraq, but have noticed you haven't signed up to fight yet. It might be because you are too busy, or maybe you just didn't know how easy it is to join! I know you probably feel guilty about sending other young men and women off to die in your place, so I am sure you'll take this opportunity to do the right thing: sign up for a tour or two in Iraq today!"

Oddly enough, none of them have signed up. I have gotten a few responses from pissed off people though...

If we do get closer to needing a draft, I intend to send names, addresses and phone numbers of Bush supporters to various local recruiters. I just know these people want to do their part!

Here are the links, in case you want to forward them to Bush supporters you know:

17. just drafting all of the "College Republican"
chapters should be an excellent start toward the manpower we need to kick iran's ass. in fact, i think franken and randi should each make a daily call to different chapter presidents and see how many of their brethren have enlisted to date.

20. Responses?
I would <3 to see the responses from pissed off Bushies regarding going to war--are they all, "Damn you, the Leader promised there were enough troops already! Stop with your acursed liberal logic!" or are they all, "Typical cheese-eating surrender liberal propaganda!" I'm just curious how they rationalise it. I'm also curious why they're not strapping on their combat boots right about now.. aren't they worried about them other Axis of Evil countries?

21. Most of my correspondents know my sense of humor and my politics...
and so have chosen to look at it as a joke, rather than take it seriously. If they took it as a serious letter, it might eat at their conscience. The handful who recognize the seriousness are pissed off because they simply have no response. They generally hide behind the "they signed up for it and knew what they were getting into" defense, which I understand to a degree. However, my point to them is that we are now in a war, which they actively support, so why shouldn't they now (in the immortal words of chickenhawk Lee Greenwood) "proudly stand up next to" the soldiers and defend the country. At this point the conversation either ends or devolves into them calling me assorted names. And these are my friends :P

I have added this to my web site, along with the PDF file for the general enlistment form, if anyone wants to forward it to their friends. The address is http://ticapnews.freeservers.com/signup.html

If anyone actually uses this and gets a response, I'd love to hear about it :)
