fascism
Why is that word not allowed to be spoken? Why are people ridiculed for
mentioning that word? Why are the media lying to us? Don't you see
fascism consuming the country? Aren't you terrified and repulsed by what
is happening to our once great country? Who is going to stand and fight
for our democratic republic? This is our very last chance. We must
stop the coronation. These motherfuckers are evil and deserve to be
punished. Why are the people asleep? The government has been seized by
domestic enemies and very few people seem to care. What will it take to
get the sleeping American public to get off its collective ass and put an
end to all of this? The very survival of the United States of America
is at stake, and few seem to notice or care. Do the majority of
American citizens really want a imperial, fascist dictatorship? That's
what we have. Don't believe me? Watch this shit unfold in the next few
months. Hang on tight, it's going to be one ugly trip.

5. yes
"The very survival of the United States of America is at stake, and few seem to notice or care."

Yes.

I don't understand it. I could never have imagined this. I always thought that surely the American people could be rallied against this threat, should it arise.

"Aren't you terrified and repulsed by what is happening to our once great country?"

Mention anger or fear or sadness about the death of the country, or any other completely sane human emotional response, and people respond with mental hygiene tips as though the fear and anger represented something wrong with you.

"Who is going to stand and fight for our democratic republic? This is our very last chance."

"Get over it" people say. Imagine how future generations will condemn us for holding and expressing that thought.

Why is that word not allowed to be spoken?

Because being well adjusted and mentally balanced, being clever and popular, and being non-confrontational and "realistic" and "moderate" are all valued more highly by people than being free.

6. it's the old "it can't happen here" syndrome . . .
people actually believe that "leaders" like George Bush have their best interests and those of the country at heart . . . but the fact is they don't, and fascism is already here . . . rule of the elite characterized by a blurring of the political and the corporate . . . it is indeed very scary . . .

7. my friend sent me a 'sermon' from UU Church in Austin given 11/7
Link here, it is very interesting:

Living Under Fascism

You may wonder why anyone would try to use the word “fascism” in a serious discussion of where America is today. It sounds like cheap name-calling, or melodramatic allusion to a slew of old war movies. But I am serious. I don’t mean it as name-calling at all. I mean to persuade you that the style of governing into which America has slid is most accurately described as fascism, and that the necessary implications of this fact are rightly regarded as terrifying. That’s what I am about here. And even if I don’t persuade you, I hope to raise the level of your thinking about who and where we are now, to add some nuance and perhaps some useful insights.

The word comes from the Latin word “Fasces,” denoting a bundle of sticks tied together. The individual sticks represented citizens, and the bundle represented the state.

8. Want?
Is this what the American people want? Want implies caring. Most don't see any connection between their day to day life and this fascist regime. But they will, they will.

Today, we are seen as the tinfoil hat conspiracy theorists, later we will be seen as the canaries in the coal mine. However, it will be cold comfort for we, like the canaries, will be dead.

12. Right. And we can't compare this emerging reality to Nazism either.
But the Holocaust survivors I know see some frightening similarities.

13. The seeds of fascism are alive but...
only insomuch as we focus on it instead of putting our direction toward change. It is true that some frightening things are happening with our liberties and our sense of humanitarianism as a country but, i am actually going to venture to quote Jay-Z here, "don't argue with fools, 'cause people from a distance can't tell who is who." We can't try to convince people in power, or people of the conservative mentality, of growing tendencies toward fascism, they are the one's that we know don't agree with us. So instead we have to convince and rally those who are on our side to support the country with more zeal and that can be done by focusing on the positive. No one wants to help a cause that they believe is hopeless, we have to stress "help is on the way" in Kerry's own words and even if Kerry can't bring that hope, we can.

I must say that I am new to DU but I got so much hope and enthusiasm just seeing the time and effort you all put into change. These are easily accessible written proofs that one side will not win over another.
