Don't worry if Arnold becomes president
If the Constitution were changed to allow Arnold to become president, and he acually BECAME president, I would NOT be unhappy.

Now, hear me out as to why...

Arnold is pro-choice. If the Republicans were to actually be able to nominate him, it would mean the power of the religious right would be broken.

Taking note of that fact, neither Arnold, nor any other moderate Repub, such as McCain or Rudy Giuliani, could EVER win the Republican nomination, as long as the fundies control the Republican Party.

Look at what Bush did to McCain in the South in 2000, using his religious right buddies.

In 2008, Jeb Bush will be the Repub nominee.

1. In 2008, Jeb Bush will be the Repub nominee. and I'll be laughing from
my new house somewhere outside of the United States.

ROTFLMAO...It is more than possible that Jeb would seek and win the Rethug nod....You have to laugh to keep from crying.

4. what are the odds
that Jeb is being honest when he says he is not interested in running for President?

Though I don't like the way he uses his popularity as an actor to gain popularity as a politician... I think Arnold would be better than many others out there...

Has anyone considered the dangers of changing the constitution to allow non-american-born citizens to run for President?

The Bush family tree is corkscrew shaped. They couldn't tell the truth if they were paid to.

3. I'm fairly sure Arnold is already a neocon puppet
Based on his secret Enron meetings awhile back.

I think you're giving him too much credit. He's non-threatening as an actor, not as the leader of the free world.

5. Oh, good GOD!
You take him at his word! The guy was a willing participant in the organized takedown of a democratically-elected governor and, sure enough, when he came into power he settled the Enron lawsuit. Look at his CHAMPIONS: Orrin Hatch is busily whoring a constitutional amenedment that would allow Arnie to be president. Do you not look at the support of someone like Orrin Hatch with some skepticism? WAKE UP!

7. Arnold is PRO CHOICE
Edited on Tue Nov-23-04 12:48 PM by darboy
that alone will kill his chances.

I would only be happy due to the breaking of the power of the religious right, not due to arnold being elected. I still think he'd make an awful president.

11. He SAYS he's pro-choice.
You want to take a chance on putting that to the test? With the backing he has?
Don't think for a moment that, if the powers that be decide it's to their benefit, they won't be able to sell someone like Arnold to all the GOP-worshipping tools.
He'll play the pro-choice role in California, to be sure. Establishing moderate "credentials" will make him very palatable to mainstream America. And, if and when he gets to be President, he will dutifully follow the party line.

24. Ahnuld can pull a flip-flop
They know that in reality he'll do whatever the neocons say, and he'll just claim that he WAS pro choice in representing the stae of Caley-foreneya but since he is representing the county as a whole, he feels like he has to be pro-life. The GOP spin machine can do amazing things.

8. The constitution isn't being changed
There isn't a chance in hell of this happening.

I think AP had an interesting view of this - that the GOP is doing this to make the Dems look as though they're anti immigrant.

10. Arnold...
is a pandering whore--he'll say he's for this issue and turn around and screw you. He's done this too many times now--I don't trust him and therefore would not support him for president. He's very much pro-interest--pro corporation. And loves photo ops up the ass-- Arnold for Prez--no Thank You!

12. He's Been Pro-Choice And Pro-Gay Since He's Been Giving Out His Opinions..
He said if Cali passed a pro gay marriage amendment he would vote for it.....

On fiscal policy he's a middle of the roader...

I always pull the Democratic lever but a Schwarzenegger presidency isn't nearly as odious as the one we have now...

Considering the support he got, the way he came to power, and the ideological makeup of the Republican Party today?

Edited on Tue Nov-23-04 02:22 PM by DemocratSinceBirth
and it's part of his character...

I guees he could get elected on a platform of social tolerance and then change but then the folks who wanted him to change wouldn't have vote for him in the first place...

And I don't think they are going to change the Constitution for him anyway...

20. Do you mean voter support?
Or financial?

Because the hardcore conservatives here voted for McClintock in the recall(I think he got %15, over 1M votes). Arnold won on celebrity.

21. No, I don't mean voter support.
Arnold was backed fully by the Republican establishment. They put Issa's recall measure on the map and then gave him his walking papers for Arnold's benefit.
I can't believe that I'm seeing support for this goon here. A moderate wouldn't go to Ohio to campaign for Bush. Someone who has something to GAIN by PLAYING a moderate would. If people's attitudes here about him are commonplace in California then we're fucked there.

14. Think again
I wouldn't be comfortable having the son of a Nazi SS officer in the White House--especially given the Bush dynasty's past ties with the Nazis. Though it looks like W is moving us closer to a dictatorship every day.
