Time to ban divorce and adultery... and masturbation
http://americablog.blogspot.com/archives/2004_11_01_americablog_archive.html#110108603893761630

I'm serious. It's high time we started fighting back against the far-right and their religious coup against our democracy. And I think the way to do it is to give them what they want, and watch the American people freak out.

First off:

1. A constitutional amendment banning divorce.
2. A federal law making adultery a felony.
3. A federal law making blow jobs (i.e., sodomy) a felony, even for married couples in the privacy of their own homes.

We can then move on from there later. I'm quite serious. The next time the fundies want an amendment "protecting" marriage, we ought to give it to them. Stop debating gay marriage. Let's REALLY talk about marriage. Let's get the fundies to admit what their REAL agenda is.

1. Deep tactics...
Hell, form your own pro-family group and start your own campaign to defend marriage, while pushing the agenda I've outlined above. What would the fundies do? Oppose you? Not likely, when it's what they actually believe. And in the end, they'd be exposed as the extremist wack jobs they really are.

11. Actually, it's what they 'say' they believe.
Remember, repukes tell others what to do, then they go ahead and do whatever the hell they want. The number of prominent conservatives who have been married multiple times and who have had affairs is staggering.

They only believe in monogamy for others, not themselves.

Pushing these campaigns would force them to put up or shut up. And it would expose them, you're right.

You won't win by being "more fundy than the fundies"

5. exactly
the only way to win against them is to get in their face and convince everyone on the sidelines that THEY are the immoral shortsighted bigots.

6. I think #3 is already a reality in some states.
I think your ideas will be approximately as popular a stance as supporting re-instituting the draft.

10. That's the idea.
Stop fighting this stuff in the committees. Let every last one of these crackpot issues go to the House and/or Senate floor, where they will be publicly debated, on C-SPAN, and on the evening news.

You must admit, the idea has merit.

7. While you're at it...
...how about a proposal to shut down the IVF clinics. They produce surplus embryos that are either used for scientific research (Bad. very BAD!) or even worse - thrown in the trash!

Watch the fundies squirm as they are confronted with the conflict between their stated position on the sanctity of life and the interests of 40-somethings (and their doctors) with lots of money to spend (many of whom go to their churches every Sunday) who MUST get pregnant no matter what.

If you ban enbryonic stem cell research, you have to ban the practice that produces the raw material for same. Otherwise, you're a hypocrite.

15. Fight Crazy with Crazy,
Actually, I think you have hit on an interesting strategy to swing the voters from the hard right-to the left.

Anyone who has a kid knows what natural consequences is; let the child make mistakes and pay for them in a just way. Well, this could be the natural consequences the right pays for imposing their questionable morality onto the rest of us poor saps.

While many Christians are against abortion and gay marriage and don't see a problem with curbing the rights of others on those issues, I'd bet that none of them would go for losing their own rights as a matter of course. Think they'd start voting for more "liberal" candidates if their rights were challenged?

Gee, maybe we ought to start sending supportive emails to the likes of sanity challenged Santorum.........

12. I've been advocating this--make nutty senators and reps. believe
There is a groundswell of support for this (including banning birth control pills--only the smallest percentage of the population would stand for going back to barrier methods of birth control). Push 'em to all the way to the logical endpoints of their positions. Actually, do it by stealth, deception. Pretend to be conservative constitutents (Oklahoma-Coburn, Pennsylvania-Santorum, South Carolina-DeMint, others). Even if you can't do anything but get them on the record it is a start.

16. I honestly think ...
that most people do not fully realize what the Fundies really intend -- from banning divorce to starting Armageddon. I don't think we can "out Fundie the Fundies" but it would be wonderful if they really started spouting off and the "mainstream" started to get a whiff of what they're really up to. I refuse to believe that very many Americans really want a Fundie Christian Theocracy. They just don't know any gay people, so they don't care about the freedom to marry whom you want or they don't have it so bad, so they don't care about public programs. But, if they were confronted with the fact of what these people really want, they might just wake up.
