2. Slight correction
Dan Rather is NOT head of CBS News. He is the anchor of the evening news. His title of managing editor is just a fancy way of saying he is that producer of that show. The "Head of CBS News" is the guy in charge of the Rather newscast plus 60 Minutes, 60 Minutes 2, 48 Hours, and all the other CBS News inserts, specials, etc.

Andrew Heyward is President of CBS News. Rather, in plain language, is just an employee, extremely high paid but am employee nonetheless.

3. Correct me if I'm wrong
but wasn't Rather planning on stepping down at the beginning of next year even before memogate?

6. Not that I know of
You may be thinking of Tom Brokaw. He's retiring at the end of the year.

4. Oh boy
Seems like all the honest ones are being pushed into the background. At least he is not completely retiring like Helen Thomas. Anyone remember ol' Helen Thomas?

5. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
Rather was the only TV newscaster gutsy enough to buck the administration and dig into Bush's checkered past. This probably has something to do with Mel Karnigan leaving CBS (just announced a day or two ago). Sumner Redstone (Redfield?), the guy left in charge, is a big Bush supporter. I dread to see who they'll pick as a replacement. No doubt some wimp without a spine.
