Vilsack: "Go fly a kite, I'm running for president"
Well, that's basically what he's saying when he turned down the DNC chair. This guy is aiming for the top.

I don't know if he's good enough though.

1. He might be just the guy
A Clintonesque rags-to-riches type story, from the battleground midwest, not from the south (a bonus in my book), not polarizing (but then again, neither was Kerry).

I like anyone that can make inroads into the midwest and/or southwest. These are both regions we should be able to do well in, and states I feel comfortable having on our side (ie not making a deal with the devil to win theocratic states).

27. I don't know
of anyone that could beat him either way.

He may not get quite the fundy support Bush got, but I'd say he'd do pretty well among independants.

He's supposed to be doin a decent job as governor as well.

15. I just watched "Primary" by Robert Drew
http://www.docurama.com/productdetail.html?productid=NV-NVG-5615-NVG-9562

The documentary featured Hubert and JFK in the Wisconsin primary in 1960. Very interesting and a lot of Hubert being a stale midwest yawner vs. a very fashionable and personable JFK.

Although it's not amazing production value, it is a good document to check out.

Anyway, Hubert Humphrey reminded me of Vilsack...I've seen Vilsack speak in Iowa last year and he was a lot like Hubert. B-o-r-i-n-g.

I've never seen him speak on TV, but what I heard from him on the radio - he sounded great, peaked my interest to find out more about him.

16. I don't know anything about the guy. But I have just one question:
Is he charismatic?

I cannot emphasize enough this unfortunate prerequisite. In the world of cable news, it is clear that we can't afford to run somebody cadaverous, even if he's the most qualified man in America.

25. Yeah
Because when cable news tells the people somebody isn't charismatic, they most certainly aren't. Even though the news said the exact opposite 4 years earlier. :eyes: Liberals like to pretend they're too sophisticated to buy into cable news lies. lol. That was the only problem we had this year, in 2000, and will have for every year to come. And self-deluded Democrats will still get starry-eyed over their guy and beat the hell out of every other Democrat and we'll continue to lose.

"The campaign press in the summer of 2000 was entranced with John. It tumbled all over itself to describe John as the perfect match for what it saw as the somewhat wooden, robot-like Gore. One newspaper described John as a man with "an easy manner and good looks," a politician whose "charisma rub off on ," a person who could "bring some charm to the ticket." John's selection, it opined, would signal that Gore "thinks the election will be decided on personality." A television reporter also regarded this John as "charismatic." Another newspaper saw him as "younger and more telegenic than Dick Cheney." Yet a third newspaper called him "handsome," with "a record tailor-made to undermine the standard Republican attack on liberal Democrats."

The Repugs dont put freaking moderates in their key politics/campaign positions. Rove? Ralph Reed? Raincott? etc...

And guess what?-they win.
