Election tampering....
I know there are many on this board that think the election results were tampered with. I frankly don't know whether they were or not.

My question is if tampering did occur....how did they do it? many of the counties where people say there are problems have Democratic party election officials in charge of the election in those counties.

I think it is likely that Bush in fact did win...mostly because Kerry was a horrible choice, we ceded Bush the south and Midwest when Kerry got the nomination

1. The "how" is easier than you seem to be implying...
Remote access to the central tabulation computers would have been possible for anyone, from any distance. If you have not already, you should go to http://www.chuckherrin.com/main.htm where a self-proclaimed "white-hat hacker" explain just how simple it would be to do. He is a Republican and is horrified by the implications of all this. My favorite candidate for the hack is some portion of the CIA, being that George the First was active with them for many years and given that purportedly they already have in place the people who can do these sorts of hacks without being detected. I realize that if that's true it means we probably will never prove it. It's horrifying to turn a corner and suddenly not recognize the country you live in.

2. Firstly ....

Kerry wasnt a 'horrible choice' ... he was the popular choice .... the PEOPLE chose him, even in the south ....

The notion that he was 'horrible' is a mean spirited GOP meme, which you have apparently embraced as a 'reality' ... when the GOP say that someone is 'horrible', does that make it true ? ... of course not ...

Furthermore: ANY Democratic party nominee would have been subjected to the same hate machine tactics, as per usual GOP processes and procedures ....

Secondly: The usage of electronic voting machines, which use an internal computing system that is beyond the view of human eyes, can be manipulated by someone who carefully embeds 'hooks' into the system; exploits that are hidden from public view, that are invisible to counting tests, and that are exploitable in real time on the fly ... really: it doesnt take much to steal an election, 1% here, 2% there .... Can YOU really know for SURE that every vote was properly counted inside of those machines ? ...

Did you SEE them being counted ? ... What makes you think that 'democratic' election 'officials' can see inside of those machines ? ...

You should feel completely used ....

4. When it became clear Kerry would get the nomination
I knew that our party had decided they couldnt win down here. There was some excitement for Dean down here.... Kerry left us scratching our heads.

Kerry wasnt a horrible choice because the GOP said so.... Kerry was a horrible choice for us here in the south. I remember thinking "that dog wont hunt"

I just wish we could find someone who had a chance down here.

6. The South was UNWINNABLE for ANY DEM.
Dean may have stood a better chance down there, but he would NOT have WON. There are too many unclef@cking, cross-burning, fundie rednecks hiding in the hills...

Honestly - most Southerners don't even know HOW to vote, let alone WHO to vote for, PERIOD!

8. Do you think....
your bigoted opinion of us could have something to do with the problems democrats are having in the south?

As long as we cede the south to republicans we wont win as a national party....

12. just go back and reread your original post
BTW: I was born in the south, raised in the north, and have found myself in my middle age back in the south.

Dumbest thing I've ever done.

I've never seen so many ignorant, dumb fuckers in all my life.

I pray it doesn't rub off.

I can't wait to get the hell out of here.

15. Beyond his campaign workers...
there wasnt much excitement about Kerry .....either near where I live in tampa fl....

Or in lower Alabama where I grew up.

Here is Pasco county, Gore won in 2000.... Kerry didnt.... you can call it bullshit but thats the truth. I volunteered at my local poll.
I saw the people coming through.

9. Welcome to DU.
Most election tampering is done by damaging ballots in transport or at the county office. These systems allow for only one or two well placed people to adjust the ballots for a whole county, enough to change the outcome of any race. It really only works in close races to avoid detection.

If you want to prevent fraud and restore trust in elections, COUNT THE BALLOTS BY HAND AT THE PRECINCT. Video tape the counting, certify the count there, before the ballots leave the building. Have representatives from each candidate present. No hidden software, mechanical device, etc.
