The caucuses are terrific |
|
I am watching the dining room on the big screen and the big one on the small screen. This is democracy right here.

But this is reality T.V. at its best. If you are a political junkie, of course. :)

I believe that true democracy requires a secret ballot. A caucus process does not provide for any form of secrecy in the casting of one's vote.

7. A process that causes low voter turnout should not be cheered |
|
I agree with the need for secret ballot. Of all people Jimmy Hoffa is in the state. Now does anyone think there won't be some penalty for teamsters that dare to defy the union stance? I think it sucks that someone may feel that Kerry or Dean might be the right candidate for them but feels intimidated to vote for who their union tells them too. The whole big brother is watching you syndrome is all too true with the caucus.
And I really wonder what the minority turn-out will be. Talk about the disenfranchising of minorities. We see it on this forum sometimes when it seems the opinions of minorities are discounted. Will minority voters feel intimidated to speak. I think this process is great for the elite of the state that get a big thrill out of being the first to vote and knowing that the vote of a few decide the fate of the many. But I'll be damned if I'll ever say I prefer a voting process where 20% turnout is considered high and poorer, i.e. rich people don't work second shift 3-11PM, and minority voters are subject to being disenfranchised.

8. I agree with you completely. |
|
I said in another thread that I don't like the whole caucus set-up. There's much to praise for the privacy of voting, and whoever gets the majority of the votes is the winner. Plain and simple.

6. Hooray for streaming video! |

I don't have cable (suck it Murdoch!), and C-SPAN offers a free live stream on their website.
