NEW MEMES FOR A NEW ERA

So, what are some specific memes that could be leveraged under these metamemes?

"Gay Marriage" + Universal Medical Coverage for All Families +
"Partial Birth Abortion", "Abortion", "Pro-life/Pro-choice" = "Family Rights"

One thing that irks me greatly is to see Democratic pundits talk about the "gay marriage" issue. What a bunch of fools. Just saying those words kills Democrats, regardless of the opinion expressed. Putting what amounts to a derogatory term right next to a word expressive of sanctity creates a hook in people's minds that makes them hostile to the issue. It's like talking about "fag baptism" - just hearing it makes me uncomfortable. If you really want to help the cause of committed homosexual couples, then you should never mention "gay marriage" again, or even "equal rights for homosexuals". Instead, Democrats need to talk about the bigger issue of "family rights". The same goes for "abortion". It's a dirty word. Stop using it. Don't even mention it. The word itself is a foregone conclusion. We have the right to reproductive control - Roe guarantees it. If someone tries to take it away, ask why they are trying to destroy the rights of American families, and why they want to take away the choices faced by rape victims. This blends our metameme "rights" with the swing-voter keyword "family".

As in: "Today Hillary Clinton introduced new family rights legislation to help guarrantee America's working parents and sick children access to health care and the ability to visit hospitalized loved ones on an unrestricted basis."

Or: "Bush threatened to veto Senator Obama's new family rights bill. 'Why does George Bush want to deny the rights of American families?' asked Obama."

2. my negative "clarifying" memes
Moral Values - you mean, your morality and your values? Why do you think they're better than mine if yours involve discrimination and bigotry?

Family Values - you mean anti-gay? Why don't you just say so?

Pro-Life - you mean the life of a fetus has more value than the life of a fully grown adult? Don't you mean pro-fetus, anti-adult?

Moral Majority - where? The majority is moral, they're just not 14th century moral, so they don't burn fags OR jews. That's the moral majority.

3. Dunno about that "unrestricted access" bit
Staffing in hospitals is at such a dangerous level that most nurses ignore visiting hour restrictions and actually encourage family members to stay. If something starts to go wrong, we appreciate a family member being there to YELL for help. The only time we ever enforced those hours on my unit is if a visitor was a PIA who was upsetting the patient or a family member was obviously exhausted and we didn't want two patients where we were assigned only one.

However, it's great to see Obama start to play the pubbie semantics game. I do love to see their idiocy handed back to them.

5. i think you've missed the point ...
i don't think "unrestricted access" was referring to unrestricted visiting hours ... the intent, at least the way i interpreted it, was to provide visitation access for gay partners ... it probably could have been worded more clearly in the base post ...

6. This is from another topic thread, but it applies doubly here.
I KNOW my areas voting patterns. I KNOW they (Right-wingers) vote on Presidential and gay rights issues only. Every time we have an election other than a Presidential election this state overwhelmingly supports Democratic issues and candidates. We have a very liberal mayor in our capitol city. We passed environmental issues during this election by the ton. We told our electric company they needed to use more alternative energy sources. We passed a very costly plan to expand our transit system, and we voted against putting Republican Pete Coors in office (look up his environmental record, you will be sickened) Republicans in my state do not vote on these issues, they are unimportant to their near sighted veiw of their world! Our Republican Governor was elected during a year in which this state voted on a Gay rights bill! Do you get the picture I'm trying to paint for you? I KNOW there is an effort in this country to spread those believers to other states. I have seen the trend with my own eyes. Texans abound here in Colorado, at the moment, but many converts to the Republican moral values crowd are being transferred to the northen states. Every year I see more MONSTER size churches being constructed. The Democratic party needs to arm themselves w/ the proper information.
