So, blue states are going to lose their state tax deduction??? |
|
I may defend why the US should keep the deduction for state and local taxes in another post, but I want to discuss the politics of this. The blue states are the one of the biggest donors to the Republican party. I look at California republicans and many are concerned about the lack of environmental regulation of the current administration, concerned about the rise of the religious right, and concerned about the bias against California. If this admin takes away a huge tax advantage, I think many will no longer donate, hold fundraisers, and campaign for these whackos. If that happens, it will hurt them. :bounce:

1. Remember what Bush said |
|
you are either with us or against us, we are not with him
That said, the CA GOP, in spite of all appearances, are starting to loose traction in this state... you know that don't you?
San diego, for instance is increasingly Democratic...
They are pushing for something else, the bushies are... and that is civil war

it's changing the wording of that part of the tax code to read "state income tax or state and local sales tax".
It's a net win for the Republicans. Leaves the state tax deduction for those republicans living in blue states where state income tax is higher than sales tax but helps those living in red states that do not have a state income tax - texas and florida come readily to mind. It also helps them in New Hampshire. There are a few other states that I cannot recall - maybe alaska and utah?

Every single person in the Untied States will have to make a list of *every* item they ever bought for the whole year and place it on their tax returns for the deduction.
Do so-called "conservatives" really want the government to know just about everything they bought for a year?
