1. I don't see how you can make the connection ???

Can you explain?
Should Native Americans, Blacks, Homosexuals,, identify with Christians because they were/are persecuted? Maybe they can
understand what some Christians may have gone through but I am
not sure I see past that.

2. They don't.
They believe they're being persecuted by the "godless left". In truth, neither dems or Christians are being persecuted in any real or historical sense of the word. Both are being maligned by the other side. You can find these smears all over the web. Of course, persistant maligning can lead to persecution, and those wielding the most power are the ones who are most able to actually persecute any given group. Those, in this country, most vulnerable to persecution are Muslims. The rhetoric reserved for Muslims on right wing web sites is far worse than the rhetoric used for dems and liberals- nasty as some of the latter, is.

4. Do you mean 2nd century Christians, or 21st century Democrats?

And if I may, can I borrow your time machine one of these weekends (I'll be back before you know it!)?

Oh, the easy metaphor. Actually, we prefer that the loony among us not become the martyrs. And lions are too well fed these days, generally. As for getting attacked by strange men in dented, wierdly painted armor and bradishing swords- you should know better than to date the bourgeouis wierdos of the Society for Creative Anachronism!

5. Fundie Christians Don't Identify With the Downtrodden
Edited on Sat Nov-27-04 08:37 AM by Sporadicus
Their deity should be called 'Ownership Jeebus' or 'Entitlement Jeebus.' I've always felt that Christianity comes closer to its ideals when operating from a position of weakness. Its ideology suffered its first major blow when the Roman emperor Constantine took up arms in the name of Jesus, later enforcing Christianity as the state religion. From that time through the Inquisition and the Holy Roman Empire, every state that has attempted to usurp Christian ideals - invoking 'divine right of kings' or some variation thereof - has ultimately met its demise. The aristocracy of Europe survives nowadays primarily as a curiosity - a draw for tourism. The United States will meet a similar fate if fundies succeed in enforcing Christianity as a state religion. I have doubts this will succeed, however, since even fundies disagree among themselves on minor points. Disputes over issues like pre- or post-millennial dispensationalism could well keep fundies from ever uniting to consolidate enough power that would make a theocracy possible.

8. I wish it were so, but the liklier scenario is a loose coalition
coming to power, followed by terrible purges as one group gains ascendency, a la, bolsheviks & menshaviks uniting to confront the Tsar, then tearing each other apart after the Tsar was gone.

The theocrats will settle their differences between themselves after they've taken care of ... us.

7. Have you ever had anyone get in your face and scream

at you that you were more worried about trees than the death of unborn infants? I have. All I said was that I was against doing away with abortion until this nation decided to take care of the children that we already had.

The neo-christians will never, ever identify with democrats. In their opinion, we might as well be the devil.
