I would like to see Sharpton to be the leader of the National Democratic Party. Is this the same as the DNC?

11. Smooth Vernon Jordan! |
|
I remember when everyone got mad at him because he was in charge of the debate rules for the Democrats.
Well, when all was said and done. Kerry came out of the debates just find. It was the Chimp that looked like a fool.
Vernon is cool as a cucumber and as slick as oil.
People here will probably flame me but he was Clinton's best friend. That makes him OK in my book but so many dislike Hillary.
It's about time a woman takes a chance to win the WH.

10. Al "Tawana Brawley" Sharpton leading the DNC? |
|
That's fucking ingenious, sheer fucking ingeniousity, man!
Shit, when he's not embezzeling money, lying to people or promoting himself in front of any TV camera that will point and click at him, I'm sure he'll have tons of time to rebuild the DNC!
Man, I love it when the super smart people on DU put their minds together and come up with great ideas like Al Sharpton leading the DNC!
You rock!

First of all, you never actually addressed the man's concerns. You engaged in mere race-baiting.
Second of all, this was not some bargain-basement crime; it's one thing to take the side of a genuine victim. It's another thing to take the side of a publicity-seeking hoaxer. Sharpton went above and beyond championing Tawana Brawley's best interests; he actively participated in the hoax, and nearly destroyed an innocent man in the process.
Sharpton is not our friend.

The problem is that people did believe Tawana Brawley. Mario Cuomo actually wanted the state attorney general to supervise the investigation. Sharpton hindered said investigation, and provided nothing in the way of proof.
The fact that they were rape charges only compounds his guilt. As I said, such charges are ruinous to any person. Sharpton showed no more discretion or restraint than a lynch mob in the deep south.

I LOVE Al Sharpton, I think he cuts to the chase, speaks plainly and from the heart, and his sentiments RESONATE. But he cannot balance a checkbook, and he likes to live large. The DNC is finally at a point where they can start to really challenge the rich wingnuts, we sure don't need Al ordering up steak and champagne from his penthouse hotel suites for himself and his entourage and charging it to the DNC books. We need a cheap sumbitch like Howard Dean, who will watch the pennies and the dimes, and tell people off.
That's not to say Al can't play a role, but do not let him near the cashbox!!!

|
...and state. I believe in being consistent about that. I never thought it was constitutional for Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson to run for President, any more than I thought it was constitutional for Pat Robertson to run for President. If these people want to hold a political position, then they should publically disavow themselves as ministers, and wholly give up their title as ministers or preachers. If they do that, then I'll support them if they want to hold a political office. Otherwise, I would not support them in any politcal position.

He didn't have great things to say about the Democrats and even threatened to protest outside the convention this year. He also took campaign contributions from Republicans who also helped with the necessary petitions in many states. I like Al, he's a great speaker, but his prior history, involvement with the FBI and the preceding disqualifies him from consideration.

That's a good way to get millions of Democrats to register as independents, or worse Republicans. If Sharpton was elected to the Chairmanship, I would register as an independent. Sharpton's views may have become more mainstream, but he still isn't fit to be the Chair of our party. He's a good speaker though.

|
Though he usually brought up the best points at the primary debates, I sat and watched as my fellow Dems laughed as if he was some sort of comic relief. Shortly afer I'd hear Dean and Kerry hijacking the very same points Sharpton raised. On the other hand, the media has already destroyed Sharpton's credibility in the eyes of mainstream America, and apparently many Dems as well (as evidenced by some of the posts here).

This is one of the more bizarre ideas I've seen floating around here. The man is a walking cartoon character; good for controversy and soundbytes, but little else.
Look at it in pragmatic terms. If we nominate Sharpton, then we can forget about the midwest forever.
