As a 40-something I am inching towards activism
We are, where we are today because most of us don't make a difference. Don't take that step which could change our lives and the lives of our friend and neighbors. Yes, I'm one of those 40ish people who have a career and a wife and two dogs. I work for a organization who receives 90% of its revenue from the U.S. government. We have 150 guys in Iraq "Rebuilding" (no KBR connection) and a hint of anti- government activism in the corporate ranks would not be received with open arms.

So I like many others face a dilemma, do I chance it, am I willing to risk my cush existence to, maybe, change the future course of this country. Do i have what it takes to be a patriot or just live a life of quite desperation?

Well to be honest I haven't made that decision yet. What I am doing is writing and calling politicians voicing my views. Sending information I gather as well as information found by other DUers to those politicians and select news sources. I am telling my friends and peers at work "What's Up" and providing links to independent sources for information on the election and 911, etc....

I will be placing banners over the freeway's in northern California soon(keep your eyes open) for all who pass by to view. Not looking forward to being arrested, but we shall see.

So I'm inching my way into activism, wish me well.

2. I am 40
and getting more radical with age.

But really, I've been protesting for many years already. Those of us who have been marching for years would really appreciate your company!

4. I live in a very Repugnant town, and I used to keep my mouth shut
Not anymore. I wear "anyone but bush" shirts down one of the most conservative beaches in the world and have gone toe-to-toe with several assholes this election.

I fully expected to get either in a fight or get arrested during the campaign, and I'm amazed it didn't happen. I'm a low-key guy, but I had old men yelling insults at me in the gym, and I'm not taking this bullshit anymore.

I ended up working for the campaign, and I will now continue to do whatever I can. Good luck to you in your decisions, but I can tell you I feel a hell of a lot better.

6. you are sounding a lot like me...
thank you for standing up man. I am right behind you, just borrowed a projector to make my first big signs...did small ones prior to the election (they all were torn down, except for one) but it is fun. I have a good quote for you, it was a sig line from a DUer, you may have heard it but I think it would be good ammunition for you:

“If ye Love Wealth better than Liberty, the tranquility of Servitude better than the Animating Contest of Freedom, go Home from us in Peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that Ye were our Countrymen.” - Samuel Adams, 1776

8. Wow
Great quote. We should use it in every e-mail, letter or whatever that we send to the media...maybe a little shame will get this ball rolling!!!

10. So with you on this one.
Just missed the vietnam era by a few years. Now, I am one pissed off sliding toward 50 person.

Not in California, but a very very red state. We've started an interfaith group designed to get like-minded people together for activism. It's exciting and scary huh?

Also, informed all friends/relatives/acquaintances that I will not be silent any longer.

I'm just sorry that complacency defined my life until recently.
