The Ukraine: Who is more like Bush: the gov't or the opposition?
Bush is backing the opposition. I am not that familiar with the Ukraine and was wondering if it was just a situation where a legitimate government was being unseated by Bush again.

2. The opposition is left wing, the Government is right wing
So I would say that the current government is more like Bush.

Bush is only supporting the opposition because he would have a better shot at the oil in the Caspian Sea if an internationalist was in power in Ukraine. But in terms of political ideology, Bush is much closer to the current corrupt government....

3. it doesnt make a ton of sense that Bush supports Yuschenko
Edited on Mon Nov-29-04 08:52 PM by MRKARNO
One of Yuschenko's promises was that he would withdraw the Ukrainian troops from Iraq. In addition, Yuschenko is the liberal on their political spectrum. Yanukovych supports the big businesses while Yuschenko is more of a populist. Bush is more ideologically compatible with Yanukovych, but bc Yuschenko wants better US relations, Bush is backing him.

4. This is a case where the 'left ' is the right,
and the right is the left. Bush is backing the south-eastern Ukranians, and Russia is backing the north-western ones. Black is white and up is down. As far as I can figure it, the people who are on the left are actually the people who are getting Russian support, although you'd never know it if you went by our tv screens. We are funding some of the opposition in Ukraine and I wish I had a link but I don't. There was a good one at TRUTHOUT today. It appears to be a real "Alice through the Looking Glass' situation.
