John Edwards bids farewell as U.S. senator, focuses on future
(If anyone starts crap no matter whom they support for 2008, I will accuse them of stirring up a continual hate fest...they did it to me when I posted a Clark article).

Going, but not about to be forgotten: John Edwards bids farewell as U.S. senator, focuses on future

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Beginning a three-day farewell tour as U.S. senator, John Edwards focused on the future Monday, vowing to help his wife during her treatment for breast cancer and carry on his own political activism.

"One thing you can count on is that this fight is not over," the former vice presidential candidate said to loud applause from about 300 people at a federal building in western North Carolina's largest city.

Edwards, 51, will finish his term in the Senate early next year; his successor will be Republican Richard Burr.

At a town hall-style meeting, Edwards sidestepped the issue of whether he'd consider a presidential run in 2008, saying he's focusing first on his wife's illness.

"Right now, with all that has happened, we're going to work to make sure Elizabeth is well," Edwards said. "I will make any decisions on what I should be doing over the next few months and beyond in the future."

1. I wish him ALL the best
His INCREDIBLE family too. I love them all. I hope he finds a way to serve us somehow (though some of us don't deserve him.)

3. I agree!
Blessings to the Edwards family. They have been so courageous. Hope, after things stabilize for them, they can find a way to advocate for others, returning to public life.

7. I'd like to see Edwards take a shot in 2008
I really think he and Elizabeth can connect with voters.

After Elizabeth wins her battle with cancer I hope John will get back in to Democratic politics in some capacity. Perhaps he can go against Dole. By then maybe even many more in the South will be disgusted with Repugs.

In '08 I'd love to see many of our candidates take a 2nd shot. I wouldn't mind seeing Edwards, Clark, Dean, Gore, Kucinich, even Kerry and other Dems back out there to fight it out and get the best candidate.

'08 is going to be fun watching both the Dems and the Repugs - the Repugs may especially be fun watching the fundies tear in to Rudy and McCain and any others to the center of the wingnuts.

8. I would vote for John Edwards in 2008
if he decides to run.

He and Elizabeth are wonderful people and deserve to be respected for whatever they plan to do.
