We (my Church) join together with a predominantly Black Baptist Church to organize a concert in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. The first meeting is tonight and I am sort of lost, feeling why bother? The Concert is usually uplifting, with speakers (who relate how the current situation reflects on "the dream") as well as musical groups, choirs and bands. The King Center.Org is touting a new on-line learning opportunity called "Non-Violence or Non-Existence", which would make an awesome theme, but I feel it is just more playing patty-cake, considering how violent our country has become. My feeling is that we should hit the streets running and protest the current situation we find ourselves in, but some of the folks on our committee no doubt voted for the madness, so that won't go over well. Anyone else out there thinking about lifting up the ideas of MLK on the 17th of January?
