DNC Asking for Donations for WA Recount: Are they Joking???
I just got the following from the DNC asking for donations to fund the WA state recount for the governor's office...

-----------------------------
Dear xxxxxxx,

I need your immediate help. You've probably heard about the extremely close race for governor here in Washington. Only 42 votes separate my opponent and me, and thousands of ballots across the state haven't been counted.

This is by far the closest race in the history of our state, and one of the closest the nation has ever seen. That means we must make sure that every single legitimate ballot has been counted -- and that means a statewide manual recount of every vote.

Washington state law requires the party requesting the recount to pay for it, and it will cost at least $750,000. The Democratic Party is committed to this recount, but they need your immediate donation today to make it happen. Please give today.

https://www.democrats.org/support/

Let me put this race in a little more perspective. Out of nearly 3 million votes cast, only 42 votes separate my Republican opponent and me. That's a difference of 0.0014 percent. The error for voting machines is somewhere between 1 and 2 percent, or 1,000 times as great as the vote difference.

That means that this race is tied, and anything is possible with a manual recount. We must count every vote individually, and we can't do it without you.

https://www.democrats.org/support/

Do not let this election slip through our fingers. We are only 42 votes away from victory in Washington, and we are confident that once all the votes are counted, we will win this race. Please help us reach this urgent goal by making a donation today!

https://www.democrats.org/support/

Sincerely,
Chris Gregoire

I responded to them with:

You have asked me to donate to fund a recount in WA for the governor's race.

I will not.

Why aren't you paying for a recount in OH for Kerry?? or other presidential recounts??

As far as I am concerned you can get the needed money from Kerry's general fund surplus or the recount money he has...THAT HE IS NOT USING!!!!

.....thanks for letting me vent

1. What is it you want?
Shall we just roll over and expose our soft white underbellies to fraud and manipulation?

Oh, the Kerry Campaign is involved in Ohio. Using their time schedule, not ours. Which is good I reckon, since we tend to occasionally be as subtle as flying meat axes. Which may not be good tactically.

2. Shoot. Give them the $$ if you have it (m)
I doubt Presidential funds are in the same pot as State Race funds.

I'm shocked that WA was even a close race...

5. Recount Money
The DNC has most their mind. I received this email today, and immediately deleted it. As it is, I want the money back that I donated to them during the campaign. I feel they have failed us.

6. Because we got a shot in WA.
In Ohio we'll lose even when they count all the votes. Which they should.

7. I think they raised the money already
The Seattle Times had an article today that said that the WA recount had already raised $800,000. Mark Halperin on ABC News The Note indicated that that amount included $200,000 from John Kerry.

9. Why Dan should head the DNC....
Clipped from DailyKos:

So the party has responded. In very different and telling ways.

John Kerry did the old fashioned way -- he wrote a check for $200,000.

The DNC sent an e-mail out to their list -- asking people to give money to the DNC.

Howard Dean, asked his supporters to help the people in need -- the Washington State Democratic Party.

Howard Dean is still the only one that gets it.

11. Yes, DFA tells you how.
Do you know what is happening in Washington State? In their closest election eveer, an initial recount done by machines turned up thousands of misplaced ballots that had not been counted--the difference in ballots counted so far is just 42 votes out of 2.8 million cast in the race for governor.

We need to keep counting.

We have a little over 24 hours to request a hand count that will ensure that every vote is protected. But the mandatory state fe for the counting could exceed $1 million. The state party and Democratic candidate Christine Gregoire don't have the money after months of unprecedented get-out-the-vote efforts.

Will you help them pay the fee to protect every vote?

http://www.wa-democrats.org/contribute

Our priority has been clear from the beginning: We need an electoral system that respects the sanctity of every vote. Befoe the election we blew the whistle on electronic voting machines and raised hell when Republicans tried to intimidate and silence people in poor or heavily minority neighborhoods.

Since November 2nd, we have worked to get every vote the respect and protection worthy of our democracy--even if those votes will not change the outcome. We owe it to everyone who stood in line for hours, putting aside their jobs and families to be a part of our political process.

The action in Washington State isn't the only thing happening tonight. At 7pm people in your neighborhood will get together and make a plan to build a new Democratic party. Will you join us?
