Dean (DFA) joins fight for recount in Washington State Gov race
Just got this e-mail from DFA:
"Do you know what is happening in Washington State? In their closest election eveer, an initial recount done by machines turned up thousands of misplaced ballots that had not been counted--the difference in ballots counted so far is just 42 votes out of 2.8 million cast in the race for governor.

We need to keep counting.

We have a little over 24 hours to request a hand count that will ensure that every vote is protected. But the mandatory state fe for the counting could exceed $1 million. The state party and Democratic candidate Christine Gregoire don't have the money after months of unprecedented get-out-the-vote efforts.

Will you help them pay the fee to protect every vote?

http://www.wa-democrats.org/contribute

Our priority has been clear from the beginning: We need an electoral system that respects the sanctity of every vote. Befoe the election we blew the whistle on electronic voting machines and raised hell when Republicans tried to intimidate and silence people in poor or heavily minority neighborhoods.

Since November 2nd, we have worked to get every vote the respect and protection worthy of our democracy--even if those votes will not change the outcome. We owe it to everyone who stood in line for hours, putting aside their jobs and families to be a part of our political process.

The action in Washington State isn't the only thing happening tonight. At 7pm people in your neighborhood will get together and make a plan to build a new Democratic party. Will you join us?

1. I wouldn't give a cent to the DNC but when it comes to the DFA
well that is a different matter. I'll drop them some of my hard earned money when I get home. The DFA = the real DEMOCRATIC party. Yeah, and Wes Clark is my number one guy for POTUS.

The right damn thing.

There's NO reason DNC or even Kerry couldn't help out with this. None whatsoever.

16. Gregoire's appeal directs you to the DNC
That means that this race is tied, and anything is possible with a manual recount. We must count every vote individually, and we can't do it without you.

Let me put this race in a little more perspective. Out of nearly 3 million votes cast, only 42 votes separate my Republican opponent and me. That's a difference of 0.0014 percent. The error for voting machines is somewhere between 1 and 2 percent, or 1,000 times as great as the vote difference.

https://www.democrats.org/support/wa_recount.html

However, the account seems to be labeled as specifically for the recount. I'd prefer going through DFA, though, if for no other reason than to build its clout.

Gregoire also has a letter blaster for short op-ed pieces. Very easy to use. http://www.gregoire2004.com/wamap.php?action=media

This broad support for one final hand count comes from the fact that so many problems have been reported with the machine count(in fact, if the machines hadn't made so many mistakes the firsttime, we'd be in a hand count right now.) As one newspaper noted, "Considering all the irregularities associated with the election, 42 votes are not enough to settle this yet."

The Democratic Party is now working to raise the $750,000 necessary to move forward.

It may take a little longer, but it's worth three more weeks to have four years of certainty. Counting every vote is not only the right thing to do, it will enable the next Governor to unite us effectively and move our state in the right direction.

If you agree with me, make your views known. Take a few minutes to write a letter to your local paper.
