Official Celebration Thread for KERRY supporters and well-wishers ONLY
Edited on Mon Jan-19-04 10:06 PM by Skinner
Congratulations to John Kerry, and to all his supporters on DU! Great job in Iowa!

This is the official thread for Kerry supporters and well-wishers to celebrate Kerry's stunning victory in Iowa tonight!

If you are not a Kerry supporter or a well-wisher, please do not post in this thread. The purpose of this thread is for celbration only! Any "sour grapes" or sore loser posts will be delted by the moderators. We will open up separate threads where supporters of the other candidates can interact without disruption from opponents.

Congratulations!

175. Shock and awe!
I'm completely surprised. I volunteered for JK very early in the campaign and left because it was very poorly run. Since then, he hasn't made any sort of waves and seemed to be shrinking into obscurity. Congrats to Kerry and his supporters!

May be but this race only has one state under its belt, there is a long way to go yet... I think Clark's still trying for president, anyway.

40. Wouldn't that be something...
Blow away the national security issues AND the perceived anti-NE liberal bias, given Clark's roots in the South. Wow, now that would be one strong ticket.

So clearly he had a strong plan for Iowa, strong intuition, and it worked. While Kerry's not my first pick, I'm very pleased for him, personally. I hope he continues to regain the momentum he lost over the Iraqi war vote and if he's the chosen nominee, I'll be there for him-- all the way.

Congrats & best wishes to his primary supporters!

145. it wasn't astounding or unbelievable...we did it with HARD WORK
there are thousands of Kerry volunteers here in DC....

we have been working 24/7 for the past three weeks....

tonight we celebrated at a BIG party in DC...because we knew !!! and we made it happen, and we worked very hard...young students, old people, all colors and religions, 24/7 supporting and coordinating the Iowa Kerry volunteer team...

we KNEW...and just because the media spinners were all Dean all Dean...Kerry beat Dean 38% to 18%...more than 2 to 1.....

tonight we celebrated, tomorrow we begin working again...

it is time for a DECORATED VIETNAM VETERAN to lead....it's time....
I wrote many times here on DU about our efforts and why Kerry was so important to OUR nation's effort to beat bush*....sorry you missed it, Will....wish you had helped us more...

Perhaps, though, it might be more helpful to welcome "lapsed Kerry supporters" back into the fold, rather than denigrate them as you seem to be doing with Will Pitt. Just a thought....

Again to all Kerry supporters, my congratulations.

150. Impressive indeed, Will!
This old Beantowner/Clark supporter is watching JK's victory speech with great pride and joy. Congratulations to John Kerry, all of his supporters, and especially to you, Will. In the words of Jim Valvano as he fought his last battle - "Don't give up, don't ever give up!"

Should Mr. Kerry go on to the ultimate Primary victory, this Clark fan would most easily support him and his policies wholeheartedly - a great, dedicated American leader, formidable debater, and sure to send the migraine Junta crawling back to their gated mansions of hypocrisy.

49. From a Dean supporter
Congratulations, John Kerry supporters. He did a great job in Iowa, and he's a formiddable candidate. I'm glad he's my second choice (I'm not done fighting for my guy, but that's for a different thread).

If John Kerry eventually gets the nomination, I'll fight hard for him. If my candidate becomes "unviable" sometime before the nomination is decided, I'll fight hard for John Kerry. He's a good liberal, and on a night like tonight, it's inevitable that supporters of other candidates will ponder the idea of a Kerry presidency. I calculate that it would be about 17,432% better than a Bush presidency, and that makes me happy.

Congratulations, John Kerry supporters!

Although I was initially for Dean, John Kerry has completely won me over these past few months. There is no other candidate with a record as distinguished and deserving as John Kerry, regardless of anyone's candidate preferences now, I think everyone could be proud of having John Kerry represent the Democratic Party in a debate against George W. Bush anyday.

I hope Kerry keeps up the momentum so I have a chance to see it.

You guys have done a great job. Kerry seems to have found his feet, to put it mildly, and as one who has admired him for many years, I am so pleased that you have this victory tonight. Your candidate certainly deserves the honor, and you have been great in upholding his viability as the man for the job these long months as we have all given such careful thought to who we should support. You certainly have been very persuasive in getting those us of us who were considering other candidates, for a variety of reason, to take a second look at this remarkable man.

He's looking great! What a splendid victory for you all tonight!

68. Amazing showing in Iowa
Thanks to those Kerry volunteers that helped out in Iowa - looking forward to John coming back to New Hampshire where we can help him get it done here!

For that matter, congratulations to all of our candidates, and special thanks to Dick Gephardt for all that he's done for the Democratic Party. Its sad to see him go (but I'm sure JK would be thrilled with his endorsement!)

Its a 4 horse race (with Clark) in New Hampshire!! This is more fun than the NFL playoffs!

I congratulate Senator Kerry and his team on a brilliant campaign and startling (in margin over Dean) victory.

He has demonstrated that he is no quitter, and that when the going gets tough, the tough get going (as my late old friend who suffered from crippling rheumatoid arthritis used to say). His stock is going up with a bullet in my book.

We had a wonderful turnout in heavily Republican West Michigan. Everyone is just euphoric and energized for the rest of the primary/caucus season. Our party was FReeped twice...one creep came in a made a snide remark how Bush will pounce any Dem and two others stood by the door blowing cigarette smoke into our room next to the bar. arrrgh!

Thank you to all DUers for your kind wishes to us Kerry supporters.

Congrats to Senator Kerry, possibly President Kerry. He pledges if he is elected President he will scrub the tax code of special interest loopholes. He will appoint an attorney general who is NOT JOHN ASHCROFT because we still have a dream and it is unfulfilled in this country right now.

117. Congratulations. You all Eeeeaaarrrrnnnnnnddddd it (think John Houseman?)
I must say, as a person leaning towards Dean in the last few months, and rather turned off by some of Kerry's statements, and behavior during the same time, I'm glad I haven't yet made up my mind.

Kerry did a more than admirable job tonite. Especially liked his victory speech. He seems to have caught some emotion and "hunger".

I must also say I was quite surprised by Dean's demeanor during his speech - lots of hoarse shouting reminiscent of, oh, someone from another country in the early part of last century. Very disturbing to this individual, to say the least.

I just hope whomever wins the nomination will have that fire in his belly, and the quick wits to provide a lot of smarmy, humorous, and indelible retorts to anything bunkerboy might lamely attempt to throw out.

Again, congratulations all Kerry supporters.

121. Congratulations Kerry supporters
I supported Dean first and will continue until I think he hasn't a chance. I really thought Kerry was dead in the water a couple of weeks ago. He surprised the hell out of me I must admit. But then he is a veteran of politics and knows what it takes to win.

Being from Pittsburgh, I'd love to see the lovely and intelligent Teresa Heinz in the White House, and since she her first husband was a Republican (a true Republican not like these neocons) I'd advise the idiot Repugs to leave her alone - especially Ricky Sanctimoneous Santorum.

And I do have visions of AWOL against a real Veteran!

I'm glad Kerry opted out of the matching funds. If he's the nominee I know my $$$'s will go to him.

I think the real winners tonight are all the Dems and hope if Dean is not the candidate(or any other Democrat) that all of his supporters will transfer their allegiance to the Democratic nominee be it Kerry or another Democrat.

This Dean supporter will vote and contribute to ABB!

While my choice is Kucinich it is great to have so many really good choices in the primaries. An old friend of mine is slated as a Kerry delegate should Kerry win IL. It take a lot of hard work to win caucuses or primaries, and you should be proud.

Carville was talking about how ridiculous the Chimp in Chief would look compared with Kerry and he was spot on. Kerry was fighting the BFEE before fighting the BFEE was cool! I've been rooting for Dean, but I would be delighted to vote for Kerry come November.

Rock on!

He was my first choice, and he'll be getting my next donation. I'm not naiive enough to think this seals it for him, or dooms anyone else (well, except Gephardt) -- but I think Kerry is a terrific candidate, and I am happy for him, his family, and his supporters.

149. Just think
Ten days ago, the media, and the pundits were saying that his campaign was faltering and on its last legs...

Around New Years day, it was all over for John Kerry.

As Kerry has often said about himself, he is a good finisher.

But this is an overwhelming, and startling win. None of the pollsters figures on anyone winning with over 30 percent, and they were wrong on two counts with both Edwards and Kerry coming in over that 30 percent mark.

As a matter of fact, this evenings results were the exact opposite over the polls and prediction of ten days ago which had Kerry in third place, and Edwards in fourth.

Tonight was as much of a call for congratulations for Edwards as Kerry, as both have come from very far behind and both leading in this first test of candidates.

Yes congratulations are in order for both of these candidates who have managed to connect to cnadidates in a very special way.

157. A historic comeback for Kerry!
Edited on Tue Jan-20-04 06:47 AM by quinnox
I well remember all the threads a couple months ago about Kerry's campaign being dead in the water, and how quickly Kerry was written off with no chance. And in those threads I would gently remind some that "the death of Kerry's campaign has been greatly exagerrated". But I admit I had some doubts there at the end, serious doubts that Kerry would make it.

Well, what a surprise!

Kerry truly is the "comeback Kerry", and I am amazed at his sterling winning performance.

All that said, this campaign is just beginning, and I don't count out Dean or anyone. It's gonna be a memorable horse race, and will be a lot of fun to watch. Go Kerry!

You have always been my preferred choice to secure the Democratic presidential nomination and I hope that tonight takes you a step further in that direction. Your vision, your insight into domestic and foreign policy and your strong leadership are just what we need to remedy four years of Bush. I have always been impressed by you –ever since I first saw you being interviewed on “Meet The Press” over here in Australia. I agree with you on almost every major issue and I greatly value and appreciate your courage, dedication and consistent commitment. Keep up the good performance and I hope that you take the Democratic presidential nomination and the presidency. My dream is to see you in the White House in November

Congratulations John! I’m so proud of you

I dismissed the "Kerry knows how to close an election" cautions, but indeed he does. A remarkable job in Iowa!

It's Kerry's stellar record that makes him the only voted-for-the-war candidate I could vote for without feeling icky. If it comes down to Kerry and Edwards or Kerry and Clark, I'll be joining you folks.

Edited on Tue Jan-20-04 09:35 AM by MrBenchley
is that both Kerry and Edwards were written off by the Sunday morning gasbags MONTHS ago....we were told over and over again that they had no chance at all blah blah blah...But they both kept punching.

Kerry was "French-looking," his grandfather was a Jew, he ate the wrong cheese on his sandwich....that was the actual level of the commentary about this thoughtful and dedicated man. Expect it to ratchet up into even stupider topics. Can discussion of his sweaters be far behind?

Good for John Kerry. Let's keep our eyes on the prize. Even Gephardt and Braun would have been far superior presidents to this unelected drunk and his openly corrupt gang. The horses still in our race are all magnificent, and Kerry will make a GREAT president in every way.

173. Question For Kerry supporters
I absolutely don't want to bring negative spins to this thread. I'm having trouble deciding whether to support Edwards or Kerry. I think they would each make a fine candidate.

Can someone tell me, without attacking Edwards, what significant political differences you see between the candidates? And then why do you support Kerry's position?

Thanks.

I had wanted Kerry from the start, but I was losing faith over the past few months and I've been leaning towards Clark because I thought he'd have a better chance . . . but . . . not so fast! From my perspective the Kerry win in Iowa is the best thing to happen politically in a long long time. He's a good man and he deserves to be president. :dem:

180. Congrats from a Dean supporter
Kerry is my second choice and I'm glad he's back on track again. Interestingly enough, right after * was appointed, a few friends and I were debating who the next democratic candidate should be, and I always had Kerry on top of my list. It wasn't until the war vote that I turned, and Kerry's campaign problems gave me some doubts. Although I'm still a little peeved regarding the way Dean was treated, I still congratulate Kerry on a truly inspiring victory. Still, I hope everyone will credit Dean for making the other candidates better by getting them to fight harder and come out strongly against *. And I hope the Kerry fans on this site will be a little.....nicer (not all, but some of you are mean!) Again, congratulations -- very well deserved.
