Congratulations, corporate media. You're goring of Howard Dean is...
off to a fine start. The sheep in Iowa have followed, but it's no time to let up on Dean now. Better try to finish him off for good, and get back to politics as usual.

2. sorry...
those people I saw on CSPAN tonight were not sheep.

They were committed Democrats who came out in the freezing weather to make their views heard.

You don't like the results, but I think it's crappy to blame the people of Iowa.

4. Ok, Two things:
One: Thank you. Well said. I agree

and

Two: God damn you!!! ;-) I swore I would never post in GD2004. But I had to commend you on that comment.

Oh well. I will try to hold off for as long as I can.

21. I know I'm a bit disgruntled, but...
Howard Dean has been campaigning for two years in Iowa. How can they change their minds so rapidly in the last week? Did he come out in favor of child molestation or something?

Yes, some of them were committed Dems making their views heard. But a good number of them showed up not knowing what their views were, even after a year of non-stop campaigning by the candidates and extraordinary media coverage. Why bother to show up at all?

I don't know which candidate you support, but I'm pretty sure it was the same candidate you supported last week, and will support next week.

25. I see you are from NY, and may not understand folks in the 'heartland' all
that well. While I like Dr. Dean a lot, I see how his mannerisms appear somewhat offensive to the kinds of folks who populate the middle of the country. Many of them lack the political sophistication to see policy behind the messenger. He just seems to be a bit sneering to them. I don't agree with that perception, I'm just telling you it's there.

Because Clark is the annointed one.

Here in NH Iowa winners usually lose but Clark the annointed is a wildcard. He played the Clinton gambit and skipped Iowa.

9. I agree with you, ferg, but....
...the interesting thing will be that the media can't focus on two people at the same time. Which means they can't go after both Kerry and Edwards, so who do they pick??? Now that their expected script isn't playing out, they'll be in a quandary for a bit.

28. good point
And also, with the quick schedule of primaries, it may be hard for the press to get the lies rolling in time for the next primary.

So the other candidates may skate through for a short bit.

Still, the media attack on the eventual Democratic candidate is going to make Gore's campaign look like a cakewalk.

I'm sure Edwards will love the attention.

The best message WILL win this thing, despite media meddling as they tried to do in Iowa for the last year.

33. Hardly
Dean has gotten nothing but "He's the frontrunner, he has the most money" of late he has been getting more press for gaffes, but that's because he's been getting the most press to begin with. no one notices kucinich's gaffes. Dean has only himself to blame because he has set himself up as the number one and has been aided by the media since he began to catch fire.

36. Dean's press has been more than
positive. He got the big endorcements, the support on the ground and the media has continually praised his organization. How can anyone say his coverage has been negative? He was expected to win this. That's what they all said, media and pundits and polls. Until today.

Yes, his gaffs have been pointed out, but it's not like he didn't make any.

How dare they vote their opinions. <sarcasm>

Let's try not to alienate our base voters, those that were dedicated enough to come out in the cold and spend hours exercising their rights, when we will need all the help we can get come November.

You must have been out of the country for a while. He has been getting the "al gore invented the internet" treatment for the last month or so. His words have been twisted and the worst part is some dems played along. Are you one of those dems? Don't think it won't happen t your guy if he every is the frontrunner. Don't expect Dean people to feel sorry for you either.

35. I disagree.
Where did I once say I expected Dean people to feel sorry for me? The media has CLEARLY been boosting Dean as the front runner forever. They've been instilling that position into a ton of news watchers. I do not feel this is to be based entirely on the supposed "media slander" of Howard Dean because I feel he has been getting the best coverage out of any of the candidates. His actions and words speak for themselves, as far as I'm concerned. I listen to his words straight, his speeches straight and I make my own conclusions. The media has very little effect on how I judge the candidates. I mostly get my news online not from CNN or those type of sources.

He is the one who could not control his mouth. He is the one who yelled at reporters. He is the one who yelled at someone at a rally. He is the one who ran the bullshit ads in IA. People see through the illusion that is Dean. It's his fault an no one elses.

and I hate it that my man lost tonight, but I didn't see a single damned sheep in that caucus hall tonight. The Kerry supporters, the Edwards supporters, and the Gephardt supporters all believed in their man as much as I believe in mine. If anything, some Dean supporters may have stayed home because they thought he had a lock.

Gephardt took one for the DLC team and it paid off.

Expect DLC Gephardt to drop out and throw his support behind DLC Kerry.

However that won't be much help when Kerry moves into states that Clark bothers to show up in.

for the very same corporate media that many have been cheering on for attacking Howard Dean will take their candidates apart as well as they do their corporate best to bolster George Bush's position.

The Democratic opponents of Howard Dean should take a lesson from the orchestrated attacks on Dean by the "news media".

75% of the negative stories on Dean were pure bullshit that, once you read to the bottom of the page, you could see were pure bullshit.

I can't wait to see if that's going to be the same when they decide to go negative on the others.

37. crybabies
Dean is weak and thin-skinned. He doesn't have what it takes to earn his way to candidate. There's a reason why he was rejected for a residency, and I'm betting that it was because they knew he didn't have "it".

Say what you want about "corporate media", but what a lame excuse. Dean has a dictatorial style that journos don't like. They have to be indulged and if Dean can't handle it, he's in the wrong business.
The candidate who understands how the real world works is going to win. Dean isn't that man.
