We've got to support this WA recount people. |
|
Look -- I'm as disgruntled as the next person about the way that DNC and the Kerry campaign have approached the aftermath of the Presidential election. Even if they are really finally making some moves in that direction, it may very well be too late. And like a lot of people here, my first response when I started getting emails from the DNC about the recount in WA was to make some backhanded comment in disgust.
That being said, we need to take a stand somewhere, and WA state is as good a place as any. They are 42 votes away, and the ultra right-wing Republican is taking his plays right out of the Bush 2000 playbook -- i.e. trying to create an aura of inevitability. I live in Maryland, so what happens in WA doesn't really affect me, but this would be a great victory for our side. It will be the first step in showing the country that we won't just roll over and concede an election when the outcome is truly in doubt.
I have seen a few threads on this, but not on the level that things should be for an event of this magnitude. Just my two cents.

1. Kerry Campaign contributed $200,000--but more is needed |
|
"Former presidential candidate John Kerry contributed at least $200,000 of unused campaign contributions yesterday to help fellow Democrat Christine Gregoire keep the governor's race alive and pay for a statewide hand recount.
" 'John Kerry really came to our rescue,' said state Democratic Party Chairman Paul Berendt. 'But our ability to pay for a statewide recount is still subject to money which is not in. ... We are working to move heaven and earth to get all of the money we need.' "link to Seattle PI article

4. I saw him on TV yesterday and it made me ill. |
|
Started talking about how much it was going to cost WA taxpayers to recount and how drawing this thing out was going to hurt WA citizens.
It made me perfectly ill. 42 freakin votes -- and the guy wants to act like it's a done deal. Nauseating.
