1. Well actually it was Russia more than anyone.
We were lucky to get to Berlin when we did else the Ruskies would have owned it all. Also Mussolini's idiocy in attacking Yugoslavia delayed the German attack on Russia for a month. If they had that month back they would have taken Moscow.

2. You know. You don't always have to cede every Democratic victory

to someone else. Is it psychological?

Enough with the humility already. If Republicans had been in power instead of Democrats, it's likely that America would have backed Hitler's conquest of Europe and Asia and pretty much everywhere except North America, you know. So, yeah, it was Democrats who took down Hitler.

8. I'm not ceding anything, the facts are the facts.
Did America play a large role in winning WWII? Yes. Did they swoop in like superheroes and single handedly destroy the Wehrmacht? No. The Russian winter was a large determining factor in how this war would go. Ultimately because of Il Duce's foible the Russians were able to counter and decimate the underequipped German army.

9. Russians bore the heaviest fighting against the Wehrmacht
The bulk of the fighting against the Wehrmacht was waged by the Red Army on the Eastern Front. They suffered something like 8,000,000 dead before the war ended, more than the British, French, and Americans combined. The US and the British are no doubt responsible for reducing German industrial capacity to rubble and thus speeding up the end of the war, but it was the Russians who killed the largest number of Germans on the battlefield, at tremendous cost no less.

The high casualties the USSR suffered was largely due to the lack of preparedness of the Red Army, but it was the Red Army that simply began grinding the Wehrmacht down through sheer numbers and the huge resources found in Russia.

7. Yeah but the US power elite (corporations) built Hitler's war machine.
FDR was beseiged by fascists at home and abroad. Read about the attempted DuPont coup against him in 1934 that was stopped at the last minute by retired General Smedley Butler (of 'War is a Racket' fame) who played along as an accomplice and then blew the whistle.

The industrial power elite of the US supported fascism in Europe and tried to get it here, too. And they succeeded.

The Republican presidential election campaign budget of 1940 was up to 1/3 from the German Nazi Party who didn't want FDR to get into war against them. A briefcase containing 5 million dollars was sent to them and they're total campaign budget was 15 million dollars.
